- It is recommended to turn toward the wind for position hold but we do not know where the wind coming from. Some sort of indicator or a logic that turns the heli to that direction automatically when the position hold engaged would be good. Latter would be better tho.
- The tail pitches down when idling in the air. It does not stay horizontally flat.
Hey man!
Sorry only just seen this, apparently I don't get notified when someone starts a thread.
I'm actively keeping this heli bug-free, but I don't have the time to explicitly add features, there's a lot of technical debt because it's so old now too, my skills have come on a lot so it would most likely be a total strip down and rebuild if I did anything. Please see my responses to individual points below, apologies for the brevity!
Responses::
1) Maybe, but a downward-facing camera when there is no 3rd person view is v useful to see what's going on.
2)All the switches are reachable, and like a real helicopter the ones on the roof are mostly engineering/start-up switches which aren't often used in flight, so they don't need to be quick-access. This is also why the autopilot and alt hold functions are on seat hotkeys, so they're quickly accessible in a viewing condition. The main panel between the pilots for example is taken up by systems which often need tinkering with like landing gear, radars and comms. The cockpit's layout imitates reality,
3)There's a radio for each pilot, allowing multiple channels to be monitored in mutliplayer and give's each pilot individual control over the volume.
4) Mission console on/off switch is a good suggestion.
5). It's not explicity SP focused, multiplayer too.
6)The screens are actually very low-profile compared to other creations, due to this heli's 1:1 scale to reality the pilot's FOV is extremely good for a stormworks heli and the screens need to be easily visible. Tilting them back would actually decrease the front view by forcing the windscreen and nose further forward, making it hard to see what is ahead.
7) They could, but because it's 1:1 scale there's no space.
8) The second winch is a reserve, as on the real helicopter, incase the first needs to be cut.
9) There are tiny gaps but that's just voxel geometry, it's not something that can be helped unfortunately.
10) That would be nice, but there is limited space and the hotkeys work well enough.
11) Good idea, very limited space though, I'll try to get it in if I make another heli.
12)The tail does pitch down and this is realistic, this is how most modern helicopters hover because the rotor hubs are pitched forward to allow the fuselage to be more level when in forward flight. Here are some pics of an AW189 and a Merlin:
