How do you find the motivation to do such marvelous work by yourself, expecting nothing out of it other than just people enjoying the work you put in.
Maybe it wasn't so hard, but considering how most of the mods here are stack item increase and outdated mods, and the few good mods are very simple in nature, you would think a lot of effort went into this, since no other mod around can compare to it.
Truly; Stars do indeed shine bright by themselves, and not neccesarily because they tried to make themselves shine, but because it's only of its nature to shine and outstand, for anyone to observe, contemplate and appreciate.
Thank you, for your work, alongside all the modding commmunity, no matter in what game it may be. Somewhere, theres always someone shining the way for others so enjoy.
You're correct, this work haven't been either easy or short. I have been present on a modding scene of this game for years upon years. This mod in particular is the most labor-intensive, demanding endeavour I've ever faced as a modder; it was released exactly 3 years ago, I've been working on it for some months before that and on and off throughout those years.
I have dozens upon dozens of spreadsheets, calculations, research notes, discarded ideas and prototypes. I tried to make this mod into the best experience TWOM modding scene offers; from global mechanics like lockpicking tiers and "revenge" raids (every each one of those is configured separately for every scenario and for every bandit / soldier group - that's several hundreds of individual settings!), to custom code - something no other mod does to my knowledge; I actually learned LUA exclusively for this mod. And all that is spiced with little details that I doubt anyone even notices; for example, have you noticed that in vanilla game, some of the photos have malformed proportions and the faces appear "squeezed"? I've created a process that allows to eliminate that, and now all pictures look as they supposed to.
Now, having all that in mind, to your main question: "why?".
I'm with this game from its very release in 2014 - soon to be 10 years. I was the one who promoted the petition for developing modding tools; I was one of the first ones to try it in action; I was the one who had compiled a lengthy bug report of the tool and sent it to the devs - most of the problems I've found have beed fixed. That helped to form a personal connection between myself and 11 Bit Studios, one I value very much; they've promoted me to a mod of TWOM subreddit and Steam discussions as well, and they never fail to send me a postcard for New Year.
So, you can see this is more than just a game to me - it gave me friends, it gave me skills, it participated in forming me as a person. And having a small modding community only serves to warm up my interest. It's no trick to make a good mod when there are dozens of guides and modders willing to help around you; however, when every bit of help you can get is precious, when you find yourself far off the beaten track, that's where things start to get interesting, and that's where you can leave something really valuable behind. That was my ultimate goal when dedicating years of my life to this; and I truly believe that each time a new player finds one of my mods and enjoys it, it makes my work worthwhile. And for those who might want to join my effort, I've prepared a guide that should be helpful in realizing their bold ideas:
