Thanks for notifying me, I didn't notice that.

As it turns out, there are invisible pillars beneath the bridge. When you build the bridge like I did in the instructional picture, the invisible pillars don't line up with the visible ones.

If you build all invisible bridges from the same side, they will line up and you can run a road beneath.
