Are NPC guards no longer a thing?

I wanted to test them out a bit, so I found the Human and Cyborg guards in creative menu but when I placed them down on a Base I had captured nothing spawned. I am not in creative, just accessed the menu in survival to test some stuff. Are these supposed to still function?

They stopped working in a recent game update sadly.

Aw damn was really looking forward to those. Thanks for the answer, hope to see them return at some point. One of the best things about Eden to me is it can make your faction feel like more than just you if solo, since crew are more than decorative.
