Suggestions and Future feature Requests
Great job with these updates, really feel like you're fleshing this out a lot more.

I have some potential requests/suggestions for future updates if they are not too difficult to implement:

1. Do you think it's possible to take a look at the breastfeeding system and update it a bit? I would like to see the ability to set it as a food restriction. I've found that it is a little finicky with mods like Complex Jobs as well not sure if it's the priority of the job or if it's because it's not under the Childcare category when using that mod for some reason.

Right now I set the food restriction to None and put the "Breastfeeding Baby" work job as priority 1 for the mother. This is tedious and even then the mothers don't seem to prioritize it well enough. Moving the job to like the nursing category, with high priority and be automatically enabled for the mom might help. A nice addition might even be some kind of pureed baby food for toddlers.

2. A patch for Dub's Bad Hygiene, particularly the bathroom/washing aspects of the mod so that the toddlers aren't rushing themselves to the shower and toilet by themselves the second they can crawl. Having an option for assisted hygiene would go a long way in an immersive play through with both mods enabled.

3. Settings for the number of passions children receive once they age up. Having the ability to set the actual minimum number of passions a child will receive, or a customized percent chance to have at least 2 or 3 when they age up to into the childhood stage would be a really nice feature. As it is, I typically get children with 1 passion or double passion and nothing else.

4. Having babies and toddlers be given a default outfit of onesies / beanies would be nice. When you're playing on faster speeds and the babies become toddlers moving at lightning speed towards that cataphract armor you have in the closet, doesn't seem much like a toddler. Or an option that children under a certain age can't wear armor pieces, like the manipulation restrictions for the weapons.

5. Possibly a patch for Locks 2, an age filter for door locks would be really helpful in making a nursery without having to specifically lock out each baby/toddler.

Hi, I want to suggest increasing the "Lactating" hediff to last for a full year.
From what I read on Wikipedia, breastfeeding irl should last at minimum until 6 months (which ingame would be 2 quadrums), but is recommended until 1 year. Mothers seem to be able to breastfeed until the baby is two years even, but not without additional food.
I am trying a "realistic" playthrough with no increased child aging, and I would like my pawns to be able to breastfeed a bit longer. So, I would suggest to increase the disappearsAfterTicks to 3600000 (= 4 quadrums = 1 full year).

Hi. I love this mod and appreciate everything you've done to improve it. I have a small suggestion. As it is, the baby and toddler onesies and beanies give a negative heat insulation which makes the kiddos overheat in even comfortable ambient temperatures. This means they're safer walking around naked in hot biome playthroughs. The negative heat insulation makes sense for the beanie but could the onesie thermal insulation be tweaked so that they also offer protection from heat? With ideology installed, with the exception of nudist colonies, all the pawns have negative opinions of any other pawn with an uncovered groin or groin and chest, babies included, so I'd like to be able to keep the babies and toddlers both dressed and safe from heat stroke.

I just remembered something from the time I was using the (now discontinued) "Children & Pregnancy" mod:
It had some (positive) thoughts for parents after giving birth, like "I am a mother now" for the mother. Maybe also something when the child grows up to the next stage, like "my child is growing up well, I am proud".
I think something like that would be nice, a way to give parents some positive feedback to compensate for the extra work children require.

Btw I really like the "child nuzzling" interaction, it's something of a similar idea and what made me remember this :)

@Lord Peter I really like that idea. Would give a little incentive to actually raise and take care of the kid. You could extend it to the father based on traits but that may become over complicated.

Suggestion: Race specific baby backgrounds. A tag or override maybe? or maybe just a ignore race for backstories.
I've been playing with Rim-Hivers! and the queen lays eggs so I just skip pregnancy all together. My only issue is all the hivers pop out as a colony kid which isnt' bad but they already have a chld backstory which basically says "My queen laid me from an egg" and gives them their base stat changes.

For some reason I thought this was an option but I may just be getting my mods confused.

Nitpick/Suggestion: Any way there can be an option to turn off the gender preference on toys? Or just remove it all together? Cause I have kid and she hated dolls and loved dinosaurs and robots. Just seems unnecessary though I understand where your coming from but action figures are just dolls with different accessories. Also, considering this supports a wide range of alien those biases may not even hold up race to race.

Currently I'm playing a race where all the children are nongendered (hivers) do they just not get any buff from the toys? I haven't made them yet to try, I just came across them in "Show Me Your Hands." I dunno, just a thought.

There is no gender preference. Whether they like it or not depends on the quality of the toy. And if they have greedy trait they would be less satisfied with normal quality etc.
Ascetics on the other hand prefer lesser quality toys or no toys at all. Richer the colony more demanding the child about the toy quality.

Could an option be added to set the frequency of children being part of a convoy or raid (iirc it is an on/off option right now) and also to limit their ability to spawn with weapons much bigger then the carry limit?

That sounds perfect. I guess the flavor text is just flavor text? Works for me.

Thanks for your quick work on the hiver patches and in general. I've been in contact with Vex off and on and I'm making patches/fixes/more content as I'm playing for the hivers. I did just find your link for race modders, don't know how I overlooked that before.

My last question (for now, at least): is there a command to turn crying off for a race? Or give a custom sound? I made a sorta pupa like graphic for them so I was thinking of making it silent or a vibrating noise. :dscheer:
If Suggestions are still open, can I request that we set the childhood background to match the type of culture a child is born into? Tribal children are unable to bear their cultural heritage, ex. Anima Tree Psylink because the Child background is Industrial.

Not sure if possible but I would love to see baby carriers or slings for newborns and babies

I thought of some possible flavour for teenage pawns:
-unstable mood: Give them a small random mood buff or debuff (maybe -5 to +5) per day. A bit cliché, but also real.
-looking for identity: Increase chance for Ideo conversion. IRL it's probably more about finding a clique or subculture, but it's the closest we have in Rimworld.
-becoming an individual: Chance to gain/change a trait to something different. This might be tricky to balance so it's not annoying to the player, so maybe make this a toggle in the options.
-finding their thing: Chance to gain a passion in a skill. Maybe base it on something they use the Watch job on? Might need to be balanced, maybe by less desires assigned at birth.
This is obviously just me brainstorming (and I'm not sure how easy they would be to implement), but maybe you like some of these ideas :)

is there a way to restrict the crib max age limit? i have auto bed assign mod but cant restrict from using cribs , if there was a way to limit age of witch pawns can use cribs
frannilea 18 Jan, 2022 @ 9:28pm
Is there a bed for toddlers to use? If not, can we have one? I just started using this mod and have my first toddler, but it looks like they don't go back to their crib once they become a toddler. That's fine, but toddlers don't appear to use beds either. If we have a bed could the mod perhaps arrange for the mother or carer etc to put the toddler to bed each night at a certain time to sleep? Perhaps the toddler can just get out of bed as per other pawns, or the mother/carer could let them out. I'm not worried which. It just seems weird that all my other pawns go to be at a certain time, but the toddler just crawls around the house. Am I right that toddlers appear to be similar to an animal? You can't manipulate them beyond setting an area?
