From what I read on Wikipedia, breastfeeding irl should last at minimum until 6 months (which ingame would be 2 quadrums), but is recommended until 1 year. Mothers seem to be able to breastfeed until the baby is two years even, but not without additional food.
I am trying a "realistic" playthrough with no increased child aging, and I would like my pawns to be able to breastfeed a bit longer. So, I would suggest to increase the disappearsAfterTicks to 3600000 (= 4 quadrums = 1 full year).
It had some (positive) thoughts for parents after giving birth, like "I am a mother now" for the mother. Maybe also something when the child grows up to the next stage, like "my child is growing up well, I am proud".
I think something like that would be nice, a way to give parents some positive feedback to compensate for the extra work children require.
Btw I really like the "child nuzzling" interaction, it's something of a similar idea and what made me remember this :)
Suggestion: Race specific baby backgrounds. A tag or override maybe? or maybe just a ignore race for backstories.
I've been playing with Rim-Hivers! and the queen lays eggs so I just skip pregnancy all together. My only issue is all the hivers pop out as a colony kid which isnt' bad but they already have a chld backstory which basically says "My queen laid me from an egg" and gives them their base stat changes.
For some reason I thought this was an option but I may just be getting my mods confused.
Currently I'm playing a race where all the children are nongendered (hivers) do they just not get any buff from the toys? I haven't made them yet to try, I just came across them in "Show Me Your Hands." I dunno, just a thought.
There is no gender preference. Whether they like it or not depends on the quality of the toy. And if they have greedy trait they would be less satisfied with normal quality etc.
Ascetics on the other hand prefer lesser quality toys or no toys at all. Richer the colony more demanding the child about the toy quality.
That sounds perfect. I guess the flavor text is just flavor text? Works for me.
Thanks for your quick work on the hiver patches and in general. I've been in contact with Vex off and on and I'm making patches/fixes/more content as I'm playing for the hivers. I did just find your link for race modders, don't know how I overlooked that before.
My last question (for now, at least): is there a command to turn crying off for a race? Or give a custom sound? I made a sorta pupa like graphic for them so I was thinking of making it silent or a vibrating noise.
-unstable mood: Give them a small random mood buff or debuff (maybe -5 to +5) per day. A bit cliché, but also real.
-looking for identity: Increase chance for Ideo conversion. IRL it's probably more about finding a clique or subculture, but it's the closest we have in Rimworld.
-becoming an individual: Chance to gain/change a trait to something different. This might be tricky to balance so it's not annoying to the player, so maybe make this a toggle in the options.
-finding their thing: Chance to gain a passion in a skill. Maybe base it on something they use the Watch job on? Might need to be balanced, maybe by less desires assigned at birth.
This is obviously just me brainstorming (and I'm not sure how easy they would be to implement), but maybe you like some of these ideas :)
