Second was choosing allowable ammo from the mod settings. Shell_HighExplosive allows for the 81mm HE ammo to be used. I also tried Shell_120mmMortar_HE and it worked.
So far so good.
Add a bullet pattern but there is a problem. Do I need to add DLC Ideology? That was something I didn't have, according to the instructions.

From there, you will see a green button that says Code
Click download ZIP
You'll want to extract this ZIP into the Rimworld MOD folder
This may not be 100% accurate for everyone, but if you have steam...
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\RimWorld\Mods
This should be a similar pathway at the very least for you. This method is used for any non steam mods. This is a completely different version of SRTS btw, not a patch. You will see two in your mod list when you go into game, if you already have the original. You will need to remove the original and replace it with this one. The game will tell you potentially of incompatibilities, that the SRTS mod is not there. You can ignore this, because the game will read it and it will work just fine for the time being
