Are the bone fiend matriarchs a completely separate untamable species or are they tamable?

The Bone Fiend Doesn't Auto Attack?

So I got one recruited but during battles it just stands there unless I specifically order it to attack someone? Wanted to make sure this is to be expected.

I've not tried this mod out yet (I've wanted to finish my current play-through before experimenting with more animal spawns) but you might be able to assign them a job to attack enemies and that might have them doing it?
