Moyai
Moyai Buffs Discussion
Played with for around an hour or two; good moveset and I can tell it's a character that's not meant to be played in a rushdown playstyle; the gun and car are good specials and overall a lot of its moves feel like "get off me" options. Not to mention, good spritework. I'd say its kind of comparable to ganondorf in some of the smash games where I would have to veer a little away from opponents until I find a good moment to strike. Projectile and car are good at creating openings but also predictable enough that they aren't unbalanced.

However, I must report that this is an underwhelming character in need of a few buffs. It has very few poking moves outside of the gun and car, which do not need changes.(This is a bit long, TLDR at the end.)

Tilts are very strange, its dtilt is deceivingly small, the outer halves of the statues that appear aren't a part of the hitbox. Utilt is also a pretty poor move, its hitbox is *really* small. They could probably work as it stands if they had buffs in these regards with the hitboxes being larger (utilt could probably cover more of the body), but an interesting change could be altering dtilt where the new change would send opponents away rather than up, as Moyai could stand to have one or two more "get off me" moves. Ftilt could also stand to have just a smidge more range but it's probably fine as it is. It does send opponents away, but it feels more like a kill move that you want to try and use at ledges given its knockback, not so much a poking move.

Aerials are generally good though, I'd just say somewhat larger hitboxes here too. Larger issues is that uair has the exact same issue as utilt; not a very good hitbox, could probably encompass the body as well, and send them away. Nair is also a little finicky to work; it's also kind of deceiving in its size (top and bottom statues that appear barely are a part of the hitbox), and it's hard to find a good use for it? I can sort of use it when falling to combo into utilt at lower percents, but given what I said about utilt, its kind of inconsistent. I can sort of combo with it if I start from a dash attack, bouncing off an opponent and then using it to try and go into either uair or utilt, but again, inconsistent. It probably could better stand to come out a bit faster, and have more of an angle that sends away.

Heavy attacks probably need the least changes, only forward heavy could probably stand to have its hitbox elongated outward some to cover the foot (the top and bottom outer pixels of the foot are not covered by the hitbox.

Really, I do find that the hitboxes overall have a hard time feeling synced up with where the sprites are; a good rule of thumb is to kind of just have the hitbox be large enough that it creates more of an outline around the sprite rather than hugging the edge to the point that they meet; generally they should not meet. Very imperative with any fighter that the moves in how they appear match up with how they feel.

TLDR, that in mind, I don't think it needs to be a very combo heavy character, pretty much what I said about it being comparable to ganondorf seems to fit it; but if that was the idea, it needs a little more tools to poke and play with, and slightly larger/better placed hitboxes, overall. Too easy to be combo food and find that other brawler types can outrange Moyai's moves. But I think this character otherwise is really ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ funny, and moveset conceptually interesting; just needs that little bit of polish.

I know this is really old, but I main both Ganondorf and him, and I can tell you for a fact they play nothing like each other, Ganondorf is a Rushdown character that... well, wants to rush you down (and very poorly at that lmao), while this guy is nothing but a zoner, with N-Sp and F-Sp being his best moves, Down-Special making him faster, jump higher and increasing his damage and knockback, he's a pure keepaway character, his normals have poor range which means he's at his weakest when you manage to close the gap, nothing in his moveset suggests he plays any similarly to ganondorf, they're very polar opposites, I can only see his Side-Special as being a mixup heavy move for both racking up damage and getting away when the move is about to end, other than that he's pure zoning, easy and simple.
