A final thought regarding the belts - but I am a bit on a fence with that - is to change the bonus they give depending on their quality. The other option would be that you can only craft them yourself and can't buy them.
I really like the belts overall, but whenever I don't have them I search for belt traders all over the place until I find one. Then I buy whatever quality and equip my entire squad with them. Aaaand that's it. There is no real benefit to upgrade them in any sort. I usually even have only the lowest tier I can find because I buy them so early and High is no different from Shoddy, except the 1% increase in Cut protection chance.
I enjoy the comfort they give to make things easier (I mean even post nerf its a lot only used for lanterns pretty much and now boosts you by 25%), but that's for a 1 time interaction only. Well, and if you ever have to restock, but then you just buy by color, you don't care about quality.
A second option could be that you can either craft it up to Specialist/High, but buying only works in a specific city. My only issue with that is that I struggle figuring out information about the game (I played with your mod for over 300 hours and haven't gotten to Tech lvl 8 yet because I don't know how), and it might just never be figured out. Considering how insanely valuable they are with no drawback to them (it's not like you have to decide whether you go chestplate or belt, it's an either way useless spot they go in), I wouldn't even be mad if their price was bumped up to beyond 10k, if not even 50k. If you think about it many people use Sandals over Samurai Boots, simply because the 0.1 combat speed increase is already so nuts (due to you just being faster than the opponent and staggering him), now compare that to the post nerf 0.15 you get for a free slot.
But those are just my thoughts.
It's not the biggest issue and it doesn't happen if you are around a town for a bit, but a single raid of bandits fills up the prisons.
Increasing the inventory of high frequency trader (especially for armour in Heft, robotics and weapons in Deadlands), or that they have a faster reset (2 times a day).
So I have different ways of how I play a run. Sometimes I just equip stuff from enemies I defeat (like a trophy), sometimes I gather all stuff I find and sell it and then buy the best equipment I can find (so more like grinding) and other times I just farm stuff like crazy, sell it for 5 million and then buy the best weapons and armour I can find. This is intended to help 2) and 3) a bit.
My issue is that I know the best stuff they offer, which is Masterwork Robotics, Edge 3 Weapons and Specialist Armour (at least I can't remember seeing Masterwork Armour in Heft). Especially with the weapons I will sit there for days to reset the shops. The Scraphouse seems to be especially weird, because that a shop can reset you have to leave the shop, but it doesn't seem like you can do that on the "mountain" it's own, maybe because the actual shop size is way bigger. Regardless, waiting 2 days for the reset is a ton of time spend.
Now I fully understand if someone says "Yea, the point is not to wait and sit until you get the best stuff", but I think the Mod already prevents that by increasing costs a ton but Copper is not increased, meaning you can't just afk farm it next to the city and then buy the stuff. You can, but that will take ages (1000 pieces of Copper for a top tier Falling Sun).
One feature I really like is the house buying, especially in usually dead areas. But that's also kinda it, you rebuild a house. You might move in, leave, nothing changed. It feels as empty. What if you could rent your house to citizens that have to pay a daily/weekly rent, based on what the house originally cost, but also what furniture or such you put inside (though I think this should really be thought about properly, else some people might just put stacks upon stacks of the best items in there. One good way might be to put a max amount of rent they can pay).
I think I only remember this from Fable and it was a feature I enjoyed a lot.
Either you have to collect the money, or you get it automatically. In both cases, some tenants might sometimes refuse to pay and need a lesson or a security guard in that city, that you pay a part of the rent but then it's guaranteed (or almost guaranteed, some might be strong and simply won't give in).
This could also improve the depth of the gangs that exist. So far, I didn't have anything to do with them, except for Thieves/Shinobi, but the others are just...there. In this scenario, they might want to take over places you rent and have to fight for. But that's just quick thinking, of course the problem with stuff like this is finding balance where a mechanic keeps interest, but doesn't get too annoying.
First all thank you for taking time to write all your thoughts and share them with me <3
Secondly, sadly the quality of the belts cannot effect the bonus. Bonuses are just flat and sadly i cant change it so it goes up with better grade ( i wish i could - but FCS tool is pretty limited in some aspects). Also even if i give the belts a "value" it doesnt seem to affect the price. Im almost certain that the only way to affect the price is to change their "material" (what the belts are made of sorta) from cloth to leather, chain or metal_plate. I have set most belts to 10k-20k value but like no matter what i change value to, it has no effect. The problem with increasing the material type is that the belts then gives more defense which again will be kinda op - unless i ofc changed what body parts they covered to 0. (that's perhaps a way to do it...hmm ill think about that.) - in terms of combat speed i tried looking at my combat "value" before putting on a belt and after on one of my dudes. if i remember correctly it went from value: 0,96 to 0,97 which not really alot of faster as far as i know (not a 100% on this ill need to do more testing find out).
I have thought about removing all belt traders from bars so that u can only obtain them by researching them and crafting them urself. (I think this is most likely the option/solution im gonna do)
Third of all - to unlock tech 8 u need the book of forgotten world (tech 8) which u need to go do a quest to do. If you dont want to be spoiled i can give u hint here (otherwise add on steam i can tell you exactly how to do it) The hint: Read "Horus The Explorer's Notes: Forgotten Tech pt. 1" found in most bookshops :)
And btw i am currently at episode 10 of ur playthrough with my mod on youtube :) i enjoy watching it and i also enjoy hearing your thoughts on things :)
To be honest im not sure if NPC prisoner ever gets "released" like a player does after a certain amount of time has passed. - But if they do i could lower prison time a bit - If not all i can do is expand the shek towns (Pretty sure i haven't expanded a single shek town/city yet) - and then add more prison buildings. - I have not done anything to increase raids/attacks on shek towns so im prettty sure this problem is caused by vanilla. But i will at some point expand the shek cities and ill be sure to remember to add more prisons :)
I will take it into consideration. But i wanna share with u the reason why i set it to 24h - In vanilla (atleast prior to me making this mod, in 2018 march) all most all shops except for bakery/bars had 72h timer before the shops reset. So that fact that i have already lowered to 24 should be enough. At least in my opinion. I personally think if shops reset two times a day it would be a lot easier. Because there are plenty of cities close to each other (at least in the great desert) if one shops is out of goods/money you can just go to one of the nearby cities :)
I love this idea but i am 99,9% sure it cannot be done. sadly.
Personally i buy houses in cities set it to public, have shopcounter filled with goods and then passively the residents of that cities (also passing trade caravans that come into the city) will buy from your shop counter - so its kinda like "paying" rent except u have to have items in there for them to buy (they mostly buy: bread, first aid, sake, devil powder, hasish and few more i cant remember) .
Another way i use houses in city is to have my first "base" in a safe place were i dont have to worry about being raided or attacked by others. So i usually stock up on some items, even research most of tech level 1 & 2, gather a group of 8-10 ppl - Before i actually go out and build my own town/base :)
Side note about exploits: Funny thing is when i started making the mod back in early 2018 i encountered a serious exploit (that i fixed - Not sure if they have fixed it since then but the fix is still included in the mod) - you could start a new game, go to the closest slave shop, speak to slave trader, choose the "sell" option then pick urself to sell. Then after you would be put in cage u could unlock the shackles. Throw them on the ground and then the slaver would automaticly come close to put on new shackles. You could then speak to him again before he managed to put on new shackles, and sell urself again, even though u technically already were a slave. And you could repeat that endlessly. Ofc at first it would be a bit slow to unlock the shackles at first but once u got to about 20-30 in lockpicking you made like 200.000 in just half a ingame day. Which in vanilla has a lot more "buying power" (how much u get for that amount). And also considering you only started with 1 guy with no money and no gear, it was pretty OP to just spend 2-3 ingame days doing that and then have all the best gear from start.
But anyway if you encounter any sort of exploits. please DO report them to me and i'll see if i can fix them. :)
For the rest I kind of assumed those answers, though I remember that prisoners get released in vanilla once the timer runs out on them (at least I am 99.999% sure I have seen them being released from prison). And that's 100% a vanilla problem, just thought I might mention it.
Regarding the shops, I understand what you mean but if I want to buy something specific there is usually only a single shop for that, e.g. best armor or weapons, so there is no walking around. And the Scraphouse with it's 2 days of waiting is quite long, though I understand if you don't want to decrease that and rather have it as a rare visit. In my current playthrough I have population and squad size set to the max, while my roaming Squad size is 27 to deal with hordes of enemies (e.g. running through Spider Plains to get the Bugmaster, a single spider squad can easily contain 40+ spiders and while you fight way more show up). In a scenario like that waiting 2 days just for a chance for a decent Falling Sun is quite rough. On average it took me around 10 days (so 5 resets) to get 1 Edge Type Falling Sun. After 3 I gave up, that's 30 days of idling around.
I lowered the scraphouse from 48 hours to 36 hours so its really "only" 1.5 days before it resets. I did however decrease the quantity of items on the scrap house vendor. But increased chance on some of the rarer weapons and also i added some more "rare" weapons to list. I could increase the quantity a bit but its always a question of balance. Because its rather "easy" to get money in my mod, i dont want to be able to just get 300-400k (which is fairly easy once u learn kenshi and all its "faults") within the first 6-7 ingame days and then be able to go and buy one of the high grade weapons from beginning. Cant remember exactly how much the weapons cost there. but the point is that the scraphouse is the weapon shop with highest chance of high quality weapons (if i remember correct). So in other shops u might only get 1 weapon of Mk II but in scraphouse u might find 3-4 weapons of edge type 2. So its always a question of trying to balance out things. Also because the edge type 2 from weapon manufacture "edgewalkers" is better then the ones u can craft and unlock with tier 7 research. So in that "sense" if it the scraphouse reset time was reduced further and item quantity went up, there wouldnt really be a point in researching edgewalkers in tech 7 and crafting it urself.
Hope this makes sense :)
Btw: in regards to your play through i wouldn't mind watching a new one now u have more experience with kenshi and my mod. especially if you made an "iron man" play through :)
I don't always feel like i have the time to play that much myself, in between spending time with my girlfreind, studying, family and freinds. So when i usually do have time i mainly use on modding or play some multi player games with my freinds. So its nice to watch u play before i fall a sleep for example :)
Yea, the weapon costs around close to 200k, so you could buy 2. Good luck using it though, assuming that would be Falling Sun, that requires ~70 Strength :D
Slight joke aside, in my opinion the game is exploitable to oblivion, mostly by using the caravans roaming around. As long as you just follow them they will be downed eventually, or you force it by luring in large amounts of enemies. Pick up their downed Pack Animal and you can carry it safely away without anyone complaining and loot it out of sight. That's roughly 100k from a single pack animal, or way more if those were Skeletons.
What I am trying to say is that I think it's impossible to balance the game and some things will be up to the player to decide if it's too cheesy for them or not. E.g. I used the Long Crossbow a single time in Vanilla Kenshi and since then never used it. I shot down a King Raptor while he was just standing there, as I was too far away. Probably 50 shots but he died eventually, without batting an eye. And same for Stealth and Stealing, I did it once and stopped doing it afterwards. You can literally start at Heft, train up your lockpicking by rotating through the cages until you crack 72 easily and go to the upper floor of a bar and fast drop + pick up 10 items. You'll get to lvl 70 stealing in less than a day on normal speed. Was it fun? Hell yes. Would I do it again just because I can? Hell no.
And once you attempt to balance too many things you might end up restricting too much and it might not be fun anymore. E.g. if someone is willing to stand around for 24 hours to wait for a shop reset, then he will also be willing to do it for 36 hours, 48 hours, 72 hours etc. The difference is only how fast you get back to having fun, at least for me. I usually didn't mind the reset time of the shops because my squads are always 5-10 people, so if I get a weapon every 2 days its a maximum of 20 days waiting (still not so amazing though). But my current Squad has a size of people and a total of 126 people, so you can imagine how much fun I have to equip them with gear to combat late game content. It pretty much ends in 5 people fighting and the rest idleing away from the fight because they would be downed in a single hit.
Or another example, on a roleplay run I did I was only able to make money with equipment I fought for (no luring) and no selling of anything except for that equipment, meaning also nothing else like downed pack animals stuff. After grinding for 50+ days ingame I wanted to buy just 1 Falling Sun Edge 3 and then had to wait 14 days until I finally got one.
To your btw: I will look into an iron man run, that could be very interesting. I saw one prior and looked into it, but I quickly shrugged it off because it seems like you have to rely on Stealth, Stealing and Assassination. And every fight is pretty much just being invisible while standing right in front of the enemy and KOing 20 people in a row. And once you get to enemies you can't KO it's game over, because they simply outscale you (in the mod pack). That's why I wasn't a big fan of it, it seems like a hella long and boring training session of 3 skills and after that you speed run the core of the game while avoiding all the additional things, because you can't do them.
As a note: I don't receive any of your replies because they quote my comment but don't mention my name, that's why I sometimes take a lot of time to reply. I subscribed to this discussion so I hope that'll help.
Martial Arts and improved bionics (and some bits).
The simple one first, improved bionics. Someone mentioned to me that there is a mod that gives bionics that have like a 60% buff to the stats. This is obviously way beyond the natural stat line, but so are a lot of enemies, especially titans. If you don't want to use ranged weapons titans are a huge issue. Even fully equipped they can wipe your team in 30 seconds (okay, depending which Titan it is), so I think it would be fine to add them, BUT to lock them behind Tech level 8, similar to how you can craft Meitou weapons but you need Tech Level 8 AND find a blueprint.
Martial Arts: I was about to get 5 people as Martial Arts users of my current "late game" Squad with stats ranging from 70-130 and when I was looking at the damage I received from just a Teen Leviathan while wearing Masterwork Samurai Armour I had to reconsider whether this is really a good idea. If I downgrade my defense by going for typical Martial Art sets (no penalty to Martial Arts, Dexterity, Dodging, Combat Speed), then I will get most likely one shot. Against humans they are amazing, but against Iron Spiders or pretty much any animal, they face extreme issues. The only way to deal with that would be to wear full Samurai Armour, but...that kinda removes the point of Martial Arts in my eyes. I ran the numbers and with a full Samurai Set and no special Shirt, you go down to x0.1944 dodging and have a -20 Martial Arts bonus on a High Grade set, so it's really, really bad. The optional Armoured Rags still give a major penalty while covering very little.
Overall I noticed every game I play ends up in using full Samurai Gear, there is no other option that would beat it, simply because the buffed enemies will eventually (or always, lol) land a hit and if you are not heavily armored kill you. I don't know how this could be solved in all honesty, just thought I might mention it.
Backpacks: This one is not necessary, but it would be great if Thieves Backpack would give 0 penalties. Heck, let them have 0% Encumbrance Reduction if necessary to feel balanced. I mainly use backpacks to carry around things, because I can't stack them in my inventory or the inventory is too small. But for every battle I have to remove them on all characters and put them back on after, else I face a 0.9 combat speed penalty (which is quite severe if you use a lot of Samurai equipment). And then you walk for 10 seconds and the next battle starts. This is rather one of the "Do you want realism for sacrificing fun in the game", and I would accept either outcome of your choice as fine.
Sleeping Bags: With stronger enemies around it's really annoying to recover in Sleeping Bags, especially if you have Newbies in the Squad and you want to train them up by experience and not by doing annoying chores/exploits (like running around in the base with Iron Ore backpack and a corpse until he got 80 Strength, then go to your King Gorilla or whatever you put into a bed and level up all of your stats. Oh btw, that's an exploit. I am not sure if you could fix that, but if you put an unconscious animal into a bed, save, load before they regain consciousness, then they stay in the bed even if you attack them. Easy way to level up your characters to close to 100 stats, given how insane their stats are)
For the Sleeping Bags, even a x8 would be fine. Previously I would set up camps with medical beds but it got too annoying eventually, it's easier to build 20 Sleeping Bags, watch a youtube video, come back to all being healed and then just letting the Sleeping Bags stay on the ground because heck I'm not gonna dismantle 30 bags every single time. Buying is easier.
I see your point. i personally just dont feel like descreasing the refresh further though . But ill tell you what i can do. If u want i can make quick small mod that makes the scraphouse reset every 24 hours and publish it for you so u can have it override this. I think it should work. And it only takes me 2 mins to make.
And yes i totally agree that it is up to player whether or not they want to exploit certain aspects of the game. I personally dont like stealing or using assassin skill either. I do use stealth once i while to steer clear of enemies when im only on shopping trip with 1 guy who cant outrun the enemies.
Tip on the falling sun: Once you are done with the 2 quests from Deleph you can kill him and take his enhanced falling sun :) - But i might add more quests to him at some point but for now u could just kill him afterwards and take his weapon he has TAO "grade".
In regards to iron man mode yeah i can see that it would be a bit tough without using stealing or stealth. But i guess that could also be the fun part :). In the new update that i probably wont manage to get done before new year - I have added 2 hardcore game starts, one is very hardcore and is meant for experienced players who wants a challenge.
Could be super fun if u made an iron man playthrough with "Supreme Rock Bottem" (thats the name of the challenge start i made).
Than you for the ideas :) <3.
First of all
In regards to bionics (i assume u mean limb replacements) I am gonna expand on this, not sure if its gonna be included in the current update im working on or the next.
I have to look a bit more into it. Yes i have used them ingame in my current playthrough but not a lot. Back when i started the mod in February 2018 bionics wasnt part of the game. I think it came with last big update in April or may 2018 but back then i opted to stay in the old version of the game because i waited for a more stable version or else it could ♥♥♥♥ with my mod. So i only recently i started using crossbows, limb replacements. So ill need to look into it a bit more before i expand on it :)
In regards to martial arts i will see if i can come up with some gear for martial arts that is good against animals. Its not gonna be realistic but like u said if a game gets too realistic it might take away the fun. cus in real life i dont think it matters much if u know martial arts if you are up against a bear. I mean sure its better than not knowing but a knife is always better against a bear. So yeah i think Chris Hunt (dev) meant for martial arts to only be effective against humans/sheks etc. But then like u said u have problem if all in ur squad is martial artists and u need to kill a titan. And i totally get that it will be annoying and take to long to train up weapon skills from the beginning. So yes i will see what ideas i can come up so martial arts also can hold their ground against animals. (First idea that popped into my head is spiked gloves for example).
In regards to thieves backpacks im a bit confused as to why u use thieves backpacks if u dont like using stealth? A normal small backpack doesn't have a penalty to combat speed for example. So u could use that one instead? - Also just a side note: Personally i dont have any of my soldiers/warriors wear backpacks. If i go out with them to fight and loot people i usually have 1-2 "mules" with them that carry either large backpack III or Traders backpack Huge II. - Edit: I can see i actually havent made a small backpack II or III which i actually thought i had. So ill most likely make better version of the small backpacks aswell :)
In regards to sleeping bags - Yes i love this idea of better sleepings bags - Consider it done. But i will not increase the current ones i will make a Sleeping Bag II maybe even III.
Regarding backpacks I don't like to use the small ones because I usually loot everything and carry around enough stuff to build a mini city. Why? I am not sure, I like the option. And I feel bad leaving behind 5k in loot, even if I have 10 million. But great to hear that better small backpacks will come in!
Regarding the scraphouse its fine. I don't like having things just on my own while a main part is balanced around not having that. I think that just means larger squads are exponentially harder to do, but then again that makes sense. But it's most likely a 1 time experience only either way.
Regarding the new hard-core start, I can't wait to see them!
