Magnum's Train Model Pack (Consolidated)

Questions regarding the new bogies and boxcar.
Being a less-well-known modeler, I'd like to conform to whatever this new standard is, and that means I have lots of questions regarding what's changed.

Questions are as follows:
1 : What's the difference in HU between the old mount and the new one?
2 : What's the naming convention for PHX vs Standard bogies?
3 : How should I ajust my current models? Move thier mounting point down, and force people to use the new bogies, or leave it and make the new bogies be installed a different way?
4 : Do collisions (the slider part of the bogie, not the mount) change significantly, or should I continue using the collision model of the old freight bogie?
5 : Can I somehow aquire that Coupler to use on my models, or should I make my own?
6 : What are the conventions on the new Acylic materials? The last standard (metal5 on main body, metal1 for accent, trainmetal1 for underframe) seems to have been replaced by a new standard. Is this standard "Acrylic for everything except the underframe, which is enamel_black"
Correct me if I'm wrong.
7 : Should I be using the acrylic_ alternate textures for my metal1's, or continue using the acrylic_metal1?

EDIT 1:

8 : What's the current "detail standard"? By this I mean, what's the scale multiplier in Hammer currently being used? 32? 16? Somthing else? I'm using 1 currently, and might want to consider upgrading.

EDIT 2:

9 : This is more of a request than a question, but : You seem to have removed a lot of the Metal1 accents? The new Boxcar50 looks as flat as a sheet of paper compared to previous iterations because there's no metal1 imitating shadow highlighting. If you want it to be fully acrylic by default, I guess that's fine, but at least allow us to change it back! Maybe have an acrylic_detail or somthing?

Here's an example of a weathering scheme totally destroyed by the new textures:

Before: https://steamhost.cn/steamcommunity_com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1372675048
After : https://steamhost.cn/steamcommunity_com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1394190527
Can you even see the door on this one? https://steamhost.cn/steamcommunity_com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1394193241

The door and ladders vanish into the car like they were never there, instead of being highlighted.
Source's lighting is not good enough to emulate this kind of self-shadowing, so the textures are REALLY needed to make it look detailed!

That's all my questions for now, but I'll likely be asking more.

This is a lot of questions.

1- The new bolsters are exactly 18 source units below the old ones.

2- there isn't really a naming convention, though anything for PHX gauge should have "PHX" in it somewhere and anything for 56" gauge should have some other identifier. I chose "RSG" for "Realistic Standard Gauge."

3- The old bogies still work on old dupes because the axis points haven't changed. So my recommendation is to make the new truck bolsters.

4- The collision mesh still makes the bottom of the wheels rest on the rails, and the top of the bolster is the top of the collision mesh. The new bolster height makes the mesh 18 units shorter.

5- https://www.dropbox.com/s/nwnvoi9tyqj5a1e/coupler_magnum.vmf?dl=0
The coupler works in 1x scale.

6- That's pretty much it, all colorable paint is acrylic unless there's a damned good reason to make it something else, in which case I'd recommend acrylic_metal1. The underframes are typically enamel_black but if you need to use enamel_darkgray go ahead.

7- Acrylic_metal1 is still fine as described in Number 6.

8- Whatever you need to get the job done. I try to work at as close to 1x scale as possible. My well cars for example are still 1x scale. I made the Barber S2 truck at 8x scale out of necessity. Freight cars are all about striking a balance between detail and efficiency since you can expect them to appear in large numbers on a train.

9- I know about the boxcar doors. Trust me, I know. It will get fixed eventually.

If you want to upgrade existing rolling stock to the new trucks, try the "Magnums Truck Upgradinator" E2 in the magspack. Note: update_magspack is no longer up to date, the new syntax is "lets get magspack" then "lets go".
