Retinue
Hey guys. I just wanted to ask how you like the new retinue system. Do you like the 1000er stacks or are the 500er better.
Do you like that the tech level is important for the composition of the retinue or not.
Mixed feedback has reached me on this topic so I wanted to ask.
Cheers.

I love that the tech tree is important to the composition but dislike the larger sizes of the retinues.
+I love this mod can not play CK2 anymore without it. Thank you

I really, really prefer the old, smaller retinues. It's one of two things that's really holding me back with this mod, the other being a tech issue I'll get into in a moment. But with retinues, I like to play, or at least start out with, dukes. And while I can eke out enough retinue cap, with a little work, to support a small retinue force (especially after ck2 made the retinue regiments smaller), I can't support any retinues at all with your new scheme.

It also, for some reason, removes some of the retinue options, but only for some people (like the duke, I play Flanders mostly), so there's only a few massive regiments available on the selection screen. Is that intentional?

The other issue is tech. For whatever reason, your mod makes tech costs skyrocket! And I mean skyrocket---in the order of over a thousand points per tech advance. Is there a way to fix that?

Thanks for your answers. So smaller retinues is probobly a consensus.
@jr1125a: Almost all retinues (except the culture specific ones) now have tech requirements. You'll need at least Tech 1 for unlocking retinues. (E.G. the cavalry retinue needs castle construction 1, noble customs 1, majesty 1, legalism 1, cavalry 1, recruitment 1 in your capital)
Unless you have that you can't build this retinue.

I really like the 1K retanues, HOWEVER the fillng the majority of them with Light Infantry is discouraging.

Well the number of heavy units increase when technology increases...

Has smaller retinues been implemented? Large retinues are really the only thing I dislike.

Retiunes are back to the 500/stack model again, yeah. (if this is what you mean).

I was actually hoping they were smaller. I've only played with them at 500 and its just hard to manage your forces that way.

Would be nice if the crossbow/archer retinues were more well pure archer and crossbows you got these 500 melee composition squads and only like a 1/4 ranged - 3/4 melee squads.

Composition wise ain't so bad but with larger armies say a 6000 men army I got large diffrence with my flanks in this case 1500 melee - 500 archers per flank.

Personally would more like to have a 1250 melee - 750 archer composition or more closer to a 1:1 ratio but well personal preferences I guess...

Also are crossbows Cultural related? cause I am a hungarian pagan but I don't seem to have crossbows only for city garrison for some reason...

Now that ranged infantry is no longer that overpowered (especially in sieges) one could think about adding archer and crossbow retinues again I guess.

And yes, crossbowmen are cultural related. But as hungarian is part of the magyar cultural group and those guys have horse archers as their special unit, they unfortunately cannot have crossbowmen as a second unit. Just 1 special unit/holding is possible unfortunately.
Though one could think about replacing the crossbowmen building for those culture types with more units from their special class.

really? Hungarian has Hussars as their specials which are light cavalry might be a DLC thing idk or maybe its been too long sinds you played? :P Horse archers are with the Altaic or Iranian groups that or just end up a nomad and youl always have them tho once settled Hungarian doesn't have horse archers in tribal or feudal...

In anycase then Ill go back being a welsh I guess pure archer retinues with them ;) or maybe french do like Knights aswell choices to make ;)

Which reminds me tho is their some wiki page of this mod? I am still somewhat confused with the techs not so sure what to go for compared to the vanilla game ;)

Hmn would've put money on this. Then that's going to be fixed for sure.
There is no Wikipage or manual unfortunately. But some tipps are when playing feudal: Generally everything matters more or less but the most important are Construction, Castle Infrastructure, Fortification construction, Siege equipment, Noble rights and Trade practices I'd say.

Heh but to put it simple all cultures have crossbows with the exception of nations with special units like the horse archer and war elephants? because if that is so the basic nomad cultures, indian and some of the african cultures don't have crossbows?
flogi  [developer] 6 Jan, 2016 @ 1:11pm
The norse cultures also don't have crossbowmen as they get berserkers.

Ah right thanks for the replies.
