Stormworks: Build and Rescue

Stormworks: Build and Rescue

The Needles Lighthouse
A small tweak for a more immersive experience.
A little trick, that I discovered purely by accident but which I wanted to share with you all, as I found that it adds a fair bit of extra immersion to this already wonderful creation, is that you can muffle the outside noises of wind, rain 'etc' inside the lighthouse by making a small tweak to an existing file - no mad coding skills required, just a copy and paste.

First you need to go into your Stormworks\rom\data\tiles folder and find the one called:
island_33_tile_33.xml

Remember to copy it and back it up just in case you make a mistake.

Using Notepad++ or your text editor of choice, open island_33_tile_33.xml and scroll down until you find the entry that reads:
<mission_zones/>

Highlight it and paste over it with the text below

<mission_zones>
<zone id="audio_indoor" parent_id="" purchase_interactable_id="" seasonal_flags="0" zone_type="0" audio_reverb_gain="0" audio_reverb_amount="0">
<transform 00="1" 01="0" 02="-0" 03="0" 10="0" 11="1" 12="0" 13="0" 20="0" 21="0" 22="1" 23="0" 30="422.053436" 31="10.898981" 32="-85.251846" 33="1"/>
<size x="5.5" y="16.8" z="5.5"/>
<outer_scale x="1" y="1" z="1"/>
<outer_offset x="0" y="0" z="0"/>
</zone>
</mission_zones>

Save the file and exit.

Now when you run Stormworks and go into the Needles Lighthouse, the exterior sound effects will be muffled, just like in the beginner outpost, coast guard outposts and the aircraft hangars throughout the world.

Again it's not a massive change but one which I find adds to the experience of being inside a real life lighthouse, hearing the rain lashing down and waves battering against the walls, yet comfortable in the knowledge that you're safely indoors.

Enjoy!

Best,

Captain Robertson

*Edit*
I forgot to mention that the above will only work with the Needles Lighthouse when it appears at its default location, if you use the editor to move the Lighthouse anywhere else then you'll also have to move the audio_indoor zone using a text editor too.

Here's hoping the Devs get around to adding the ability to create indoor sound zones using the mission editor at some point in the near future, as this will certainly make things a lot easier for anyone looking to add these for their own player-made creations!

Captain Robertson, sorry I missed your message, Steam doesn't always inform me of posts like this. I thought this was very clever, sound (or lack thereof) really adds to the ambiance of an environment, thank you for sharing this process with us!
