Radiance

How do I consistently avoid Sun Dance?
I feel like the Sun Dance gravitation effect is unreasonably strong. If EoL is on screen at all or if you're not using hover-type wings, you can't escape.

That's not even mentioning what the gravity effect does to my mobility. If I didn't get killed outright by the gravity, the Radiant Beam snipes me every time. I can't get out of the way since I'm locked in place by the gravity. The only mobility option I have left is heavily-weakened dashes (again, due to the gravity).

I'm running Calamity, which gives me access to interesting new stuff, but also disables the infinite flight effect of the Soaring Insignia. If this is a known problem, please let me know so I don't waste any more time trying to beat this.

I am using Hallowed Armor, Evasion Scarf, Master Ninja Gear, Soaring Insignia, and Celestial Starboard. I also have two summoner accessories since I need to damage EoL without trying to use a weapon of my own; I can't imagine doing this while also trying to attack.

I feel completely stuck on how to get past Sun Dance: If I try flying straight up, I almost always get pulled in because I can't maneuver around EoL and also fly high enough before Sun Dance starts before I get pulled in. If I try going to the side, I can stay in place consistently without getting pulled in... only to get sniped by Radiant Beams - too many to dodge with Hallow Armor, Master Ninja Gear, and the Evasion Scarf (assuming I have all three off-cooldown when I get to this attack).

Again, Calamity changes the way dodging works, so if the cooldown-based dodging is what my problem is, please tell me.

I have fully survived Sun Dance exactly once at the time of posting. I need concrete directions/tech or else this fight is impossible for me.

Update: I found that going up makes it easier to dodge but the timing between landing to refresh my Starboard + making sure I don't touch EoL (because her contact damage also instant kills) + having to ascend out of Sun Dance range is far too tight to pull off consistently.

I can't be sure, but Calamity might be what nerfed the Insignia to only give 25% more flight time rather than infinite flight. In every video I see of this mod, the Insignia's infinite flight is key to winning.

Does this mean this fight is impossible with Calamity installed?

Update #2: I was right - Soaring Insignia was nerfed to ♥♥♥♥ by Calamity. If you still have real advice for this fight (particularly with Sun Dance), I will appreciate it. But as things are, I don't think these two mods can be played together.

I can confirm that Sun Dance was specifically designed around Starboard + Insignia. Considering that Calamity nerfs both of them heavily, it's safe to say that you're trying to do something that wasn't intended or properly balanced at all.

Most of the videos you'll find of people online beating her involve a strategy where you use the side-hover feature to counteract the gravity, and then fly upwards (usually with the vertical-boost because it's faster) to sidestep the beams.

Unfortunately, with Calamity installed, the Starboard gets a pretty big penalty to horizontal speed, so that approach doesn't work very well.

The technique that worked for me was using the vertical-boost wing feature a second or so before the gravity kicks in to get enough vertical momentum to launch yourself far above her, then using the side-hover (or possibly a dash) to avoid the beams.

The only problem with this approach is that if you you dodge the preceding attacks by:
1) Dropping through a platform to lead homing projectiles downward.
2) Flying up to sidestep the homing projectiles + avoid her dash.
...your wings will stall before sun dance starts, leaving you with no momentum; you'll get stuck next to her and fall in.

The only solution I found was to use either a featherfall potion or an infinite flight mount to move upwards while saving flight time and retaining vertical speed.

Good luck if you actually try this strategy though, it's a little hard to explain over text.

I do agree that the gravity is a little unreasonably strong at the moment. It's kind of a hard mechanic to balance, especially with other mods affecting movement.

Thank you for the response! I knew this was supposed to be hard, but I figured something wasn't right.

I guess I'll have to try this mod again once I finish my Calamity run. I'll have my rematch yet!
