I'm unsure if this is a bit of hefty request, but I'd really like a fail-safe to be added to the mod in case the Neow Scene is replaced and a modded character draws from Mystery Dungeon's characters' cards. I'm not saying integrate full compatibility for each incompatible mod, but integrate a general "catch all" solution that should be decent enough in case the Neow scene is replaced.
This is my idea for it.
1. Set "The Pokemon" starting health to 1/1 instead of 0/0, so that the character does not lock up on the first turn of entering a battle.
2. Move the "Explorer's Deck" and "Partner's Deck" from the colorless pool to "The Pokemon's" card pool, and set the cards to be considered "Basic" and unidentifiable in card pools or cards that pull random cards from other characters. This way, instead of referencing a null value when a when "The Pokemon's" card is attempted to be pulled, it instead pulls StS's failsafe card which is "Madness".
3. Make "Explorer's Deck" and "Partner's Deck" playable 0 cost cards that when played, will pull up a card selection which allows the player to pick their "Explorer" and then their "Partner" and add their card pools to the run's current card pools.
Next, the card will the player's health and max health to 75 (Or the chosen Explorer's max health) and replace the player's sprite with the correct Explorer sprite.
After this is done, the game will then check if "Nature Related Relic" is the player's current relic. If it detects that "Nature Related Relic" is present, it'll replace the relic with the corresponding nature relic of Explorer chosen.
After, it'll permanently remove "Explorer's Deck" and "Partner's Deck" from the player's deck and add the chosen Explorer and Partner's basic cards into the player's deck (and the current battle) permanently.
Finally, the card will draw 5 cards to replenish the player's starting hand so that they can finish the first battle.
-------------
Of course, this isn't perfect as it still makes certain Neow options unpickable (Transform a card, remove a card, add a card, upgrade a card), but it at least makes Mystery Dungeon characters playable and fixes issues which are caused by "The Pokemon's" empty card pool.
Sorry if this is a bit wordy. I understand if it's too much of a hassle, but it'd really make me happy if I could play Mystery Dungeon in combination with some of my other favorite mods.
But I personnally like the idea!
Please give us some feedback on other topics like balance or bugs in the meantime those I can manage alone.
And as an addendum to my idea, one of the "Explorer"/"Partner" choice options could be a random explorer/partner as well which coincide to the "random team" option from the Neow event.
Also I'm designing some deature for the 2.5 update if you have any thoughts (like the 1est one)
Totodile is the subject of a lot of changes due to a lack of extensive testing before release.
Really enjoying the mod!
Reason: The Neow scene being changed makes it incompatible with a bunch of other mods. I would love to use these pokemon characters in some act mods like downfall but can't because of this.
Also, after beating the heart and starting a second run (having boss-swapped the nature relic), my second run didn't get to start with a nature relic at all, despite choosing the "spend all gold to choose a Rare" option.
Totodiles Snore + Explorer Form can stunlock almost every encounter, especially when you can also scry 70% of your deck away every turn.
Fun mod overall though.
Thank you for the feed back.
cyndaqui's Fire Blast has been a thorn in our side for a while.
