How This Mod Works / Frequent Q&A
This is a list of frequent questions along with their answer to hopefully help you understand and clear up how PokéWorld works.

If anything is not clear to you, please notice me so that I may improve the explanation.

If you have any issues with the explanation bellow not working for you, it is most probably due to incompatibility with others of your mods installed. I'm doing my best to try and fix these issues

Gameplay:
  • How do I catch a Pokémon? / I can't tame a Pokémon
Pokémon aren't tamed the same way vanilla animals are. To catch a wild Pokémon, you need to equip one of your colonist a PokéBall belt (you spawn with one in the 3 vanilla scenarios). Once your colonist has a belt equipped, you have to draft him in order to be able to launch these PokéBall at wild Pokémon. The chance to catch a Pokémon depends on the catch rate of that Pokémon, its health and the "bonus ball" off the type of PokéBall used. You can find more about these stats in the information panel of the Pokémon / PokéBall belt.

  • How do I make my Pokémon fight? / My Pokémon won't fight
Once caught, your Pokémon have to be assigned a trainer/master in the animal tab (for that you need the guard "trainable" trained, but most Pokémon should learn it from the get-go). Once the Pokémon has a master assigned, you have to draft this master. With the master drafted, select the Pokémon, you'll notice a blue zone around the master. You can freely control the Pokémon inside this zone like you would a regular pawn: move around and attack with melee or ranged moves. The size of the blue zone increases with the master animal skill.

  • How do Pokémon moves work? / How do i use my Pokémon move?
When an owned Pokémon is selected, the move tab is located in the bottom left of your screen, above the inspect panel of that Pokémon. You'll notice there a set of available moves for your Pokémon, their power, range, and the level at wich the Pokémon unlocks them. If a green / red checkmark is displayed instead of an unlock level, it means the Pokémon has already unlocked that move, simply check or uncheck the move if you want your Pokémon to use it during battle. Selected moves are used randomly, and if none are selected / available, the Pokémon will default to using Struggle.

  • How do I level up / evolve my Pokémon?
Your Pokémon has to battle other creatures (not only pokémon). When the creature is killed (or caught if its a Pokémon), the experience it can give will be shared with up to 8 of your Pokémon who dealt damage to it. With enough experience, your Pokémon will gain level and become stronger. Some Pokémon evolve after reaching a certain level. You can choose not to evolve a Pokémon by canceling the evolution or giving him an everstone.

  • How do I put my Pokémon in his PokéBall? / How do I open a PokéBall?
There is a simple command / gizmo when you select your Pokémon, clicking it will order one of your colonist to put the selected pokémon in his PokéBall. When you select the PokéBall, another command allows you to order one of your colonist to open it.

  • How do I access the PC / Storage System?
Once you have researched the Pokémon Storage System project, you'll unlock the PC, a building that you can place in your base to access the Storage System. If you select a PokéBall (one with a Pokémon inside), a new command will be displayed allowing you to order one of your colonist to store the pokémon in the PC.
Important note: the PC and the Storage System are different elements, and all PC access the same storage system. This means that multiple PC will all have access to the same contained Pokémon, no matter their location, even in different bases in different region of the planet.

  • How do i use Potions / Evolution Stone / Rare Candy?
In the health tab of the Pokémon, under the operation menu.
A Potion will instantly heal a flat amount of hp of your Pokémon, so you can go battle again faster. But potion do not heal scars or missing limb, for that you need to use Heal Powder.

  • Legendary Pokemon
Legendaries are available trough late-game quests.
To unlock these quests, you have to catch a lot of different pokemon species, to fill your Pokedex. After you have filled a certain % of your Pokedex, you will start to get Legendaries quests.

For most of them, Legendaries from gen 1 requires you to catch Pokémon from gen 1, for gen 2 you need to catch Pokémon from gen 2, and so on...

The stronger Legendaries require you to catch a larger % of Pokémon, and you'll often have to at least have seen a certain set of Legendaries to unlock the quest for their "leader" (think of the lake guardian trio that you must have seen to unlock the space/time duo for gen 4 for exemple)

  • Damage calculation
Pokémon attacking Pokémon: Damage are computed similarly to the main Pokémon games, using attack / special attack for melee / ranged moves respectively and their respective defense stats, with stab and type advantages.

Pokémon attacking other creatures or Pawn: The damage amount is calculated using the Pokémon attack / spAttack stat, with the defending creature total overall armor being used as defense.

Other creature or Pawn attacking Pokémon: Vanilla RimWorld damage calculation, with Pokémon armor affected by its defense and special defense.

Mod Options:
  • Can I play with only x generation Pokémon?:
Yes you can, in any combination you want. There are checkboxes in the mod options that you can change at any time before or during play. Keep in mind that it is not a totally perfect system, there are rare occasion where a Pokémon from another generation can appear in your game. The most notable are evolution lines spread over several generations.

  • I only see Pokémon in my game, no other creatures:
There is a slider in the mod options to set the amount of Pokémon you want to see over other vanilla or modded creatures. It is set to only see Pokémon by default.

How does a pokemon's stats affect damage calculation?

The tooltip for Melee DPS stat only includes the power of the move in the calculation, does it get further impacted by the pokemon's level at all?

Are stats like Attack and Defense used to generate armor and penetration values in Rimworld's default combat formula, or do they get used in some other way?

I added info about damage calculation, and the latest update added evolution information in the Pokémon information tab

Would love to see more information about the moves, like accuracy, extra abilities info (e.g., Electrike's Tackle vs. Quick Attack both using 4 power, but the latter needs more level to learn), and maybe just more details accessible within the in-game.
