Nope, you can fly it without trait/books.
Btw, if you use it in MP, don't go too fast with it if you have a friend inside.
A certain high speed the game think a user it teleporting, so you will be teleported back 100-200m before.

If you don't have luck like two of my firend, you're stuck in a dense forest with zombies, without anywhere for the heli to catch you up lmao XD
