Heres my thoughts on a melee "combat system" in addition to what RazLooa suggested
I'm thinking 2 different modes.
The 1st mode will use key combinations along with the mouse click.
The 2nd mode will use keys to select the attack type and then the mouse will be used for extra control of those attacks.
So like, we'll hit [R] to enter combat mode, [MODIFIER]+[R] for the 2nd type.
Where I'm on the fence is what would be more fun:
1. Have the system be "aware" of where the target is and then it automatically adjusts thrust distances, etc so the attacks land better every time?
or
2. System is completely unaware of targets and distnaces are based on the move/time of button presses, etc. So its 100% on the user whether or not any of the attacks will even hit the target?
We definitely need some sort of kung fu smashathon mode where you practically just levitate around bashing your limbs into whatever.
If anybody has played those old ragdoll stickfight games made by that italian dude, you know what I am talking about! Totally forgot the name of those games, they had awesome physics and neon bloom effects and ran super well even on ancient work laptops in the mid 00s
Melee: 2 Overhead swing (1 quick, 1 power), 2 thrust (1 quick stab, 1 power), 1 power upward swing.
Unarmed: front kick, jump kick, uppercut, pimpslap, superman punch
After those are nailed down, we can work on the system to allow better control of it? I dunno, kinda talking out my ass but thats what I'm envisioning
How long do you think all this will take?
If I push too hard, Ima get burned out and probably abandon it which would be 1 more fekn unfinished project in me life. Does that give you the info you wanted or TMI
Nah, I'm just curious is all. And don't spend your vacation working on a mod mate, have a break if you really need to.
