Decal?
This item would be really cool if a player could apply a decal to customize the floating object. Perhaps the custom image could rotate. The image could be uploaded in a black and white, allowing for painting of the object to be better looking.

as cool as that would be, there's only one problem. If you wanted to put a decal on it it would either be flat or a real pain to set up a 3d model of something

I was thinking something like the minecraft item drops; has some thickness, but is just a 2D image that rotates
