Solid, spooky fun. 4/5 stars.

Unlike the other entries in the "Apocalypse" series, this mod is a fully original 6-map campaign that doesn't remix any vanilla content — and surprisingly, it's also the best in the series by a long shot. From forests and sewers to warehouses and a military base finale, all the environments are detailed and dripping with a dark, foreboding atmosphere that I couldn't get enough of. The difficulty is slightly elevated, but it's still fair and the gameplay is consistently solid.

However, while this mod does improve on its "Apocalypse" series brethren, it still has many of the same flaws to a lesser extent. Navigation can be tricky, some maps feel overly large, and there aren't enough horde events. The lack of custom assets and dialogue is also a missed opportunity to show some personality.

Still, I think Blood Woods is an underrated horror campaign that fans of dark, creepy forests will enjoy. I went in with no expectations and it won me over in 90 minutes flat.
