wow that's very strange. you seem the only one reporting this. Did you by any chance save and quit during the dialogue? because that will cause it yes

Sadly it happens every time I launch adventure mode, I've only gotten as far as the first bit of text and on the first skeleton. both completely softlock me and I cant get out of the conversation/text. The only thing I can think of was that I was tabbing in and out of the game when I first came across this or somehow an incompatibility with something else form the workshop

Everything is fine. This is absolutely not intuitive, especially when you have more than 100 hours in the game)

I just made a fail safe for this.

So if you either click "End" or press E, either one closes the dialogue when used.

I've seen people getting stuck to this first boss way too often.
