Could you also remove the athenian naked hoplites? I personally don't like them.

Tom.025 3 Dec, 2014 @ 1:47pm
This is the unit i want to remove:

PS: sorry if they are already removed, me i want to remove these units completely (campaigns and custom battles)

Ardiaei:
Illyrian Thorax hoplites
Levy pikemen
Noble spearmen (they dont fit at all for ardiaei)
Illyrian archers
Illyrian horse archers

Armenia:
Armenian Archers

Arverni:
Female Archers
Bowmen
Light female cavalry
Noble celtic women

- The Card for gallic warrior have to change (they have axes in battle but a sword in their card)

(Spears Of Ares) = put a cap of them, 2 if possible
Levies

Baktria (Palm tree wings for all elite units please !) :

King's Disciples

Boii:
Galic spear band
Female archers
Female chariots

Carthage:
Phoenician Spearmen (because there are the same as carthaginian hoplites)
Carthaginian chariots
Carthaginian pikemen
Horse archers (Too OP for carthage, but maybe replace the bow for javelin thrower, like lybian peltast but on horse)

Colchis/Pergamon/Cimmeria:
I can't say i dont have the DLC

Galacia:
Female archers
Light female riders

Getae:
Thracian chariots

Iceni:
Britannic light bows
Female archers
Light female cavalry
Celtic female chariots
Celtic chariots (because they look too greek for me)

Macedon:
Antigonid peltasts
Sword agema

Massagetae:
Heavy caspian infantry

Remove 1 of the 2 chariots available for massagetae and make the other like an iceni one

Freemen
Celti-Italic Infantry
Massilian Veterans
Massilian Guard
Celto italic slingers
Massilian peltasts

Nervii:
Noble female warriors

Celtic female charriots

Parthia:

Sarmatian armored spears
Sarmatian elite lancers
Steppe chariots

Seleucid:
Successor Infantry
Hellenic Elite Archers

Sparta:
Young speartans

Suebi:
Germanic Spear Guard
Rangers

Tylis:
Thracian chariots

Syracuse:
I agre with you for their complete remake

I want to say for conclude, it will be better if:
-Unit should have the same shield form (but the pattern could be different of course)
-Unit should have almost the same armor between each other (only a few have a different armor)
-A little less variety of helmet for units if possible (Im talking about the athenian infantry, all these type of helmet, i like the fact that all helmet are different but too much is too much i think ...)
-Remove the helmet of horses please (i found this ugly)
-Put less barb for greek please (there is a invasion of barbs !! a lot of units have barbs)

And thats all for me :)

As a nomad diehard, I'd suggest keeping the nomads infantry...well, relevent. It's giant hole in their rosters in the vanilla game and, historically, nomads have a history being fairly excellent at siege warfare. The Mongols for example. The lack of infantry and siege weapons really killed their playability in the vanilla game and your mod helped me alot with that. The fact your sole infantry unit is an unarmored axemen really limits your options in the vanilla game. The roster, as it is, is more or less perfect for me.

And I'd caution against going overboard with removing units-just because something was in history, it doesn't mean it'd stay the same when, say, the Baktrian's invade Rome. They'd pick things up, different ways of fighting and moving, from their enemies and alot of your units rather excellently simulate this as the game goes on.

I'd also suggest keeping the female nomad units in-historically nomads were much more open to the idea of a woman bashing in heads alongside them then western civilizations. I'd like to see more female units in general, but I doubt that'll happen.

And as a last note, if a faction lacks archers, which were, historically more or less a common feature to all civilizations, I'd like to see them left in. It doesn't make much sense to me otherwise.

These are just my thoughts, as a longtime Total War fan, Public History major and recent subscriber.

Colchis needs the extra units: Thracian factions could lose the chariots & same cavalry though
Cenred_58 8 Dec, 2014 @ 3:58pm
Here are my suggestions for units to remove and some suggestions for changes.

Massagetae:
chariots,

Roxolani:
Chariots,
and their
Royal Scythia
Chariots

Pontus:
remove pontic light archers (have nearly the same stats as eastern ones)
please make Bosporan cataphracts recruitable in campaign
remove the armenian melee cav. (redundant with the merc cappadocians)
please change pontic royal bowmen to cimmerian heavy archers (more historical, also ponic royal bowmen have really aweful armour and no heavy shot)
If you want to remove Mithridates vengeance I would slightly buff pontic legionaries (pontus had pretty good melee inf in real llife)

Athens:
naked hoplite (maybe cap them, the AI recruits them a lot and they are an odd unit)
Noble pikes,
Athenian Inf.

Massilia:
Massialian Gaurd
maybe tweak Massilian veterans (change their sheild to be more celtic, sort of a barbarian unit with higher attack).

Arverni:
Female archers
female warriors (or maybe change them to look like the unit card)
female light cav.

Romans:
the super elite unit infantry you added for rome, something to do with Mars (they already have a large number of super elites)

Selucids:
selucid chariots

Egypt:
Ptolemaic chariots
the cataphract camel horse archers.

Carthage:
Hannibal's elephants (they look really cool but are sort of a more eastern thing)
carthiginian chariots
chosen pikemen

Ardeai:
thorax pikes
and their shock cav.

Anyway, these are just my suggestions, any changes are obviously up to you. As usual great mod, adds a lot of great stuff.
I like Lord of Cerasus' ideas, also if females in combat is a problem, I would just cap them to be more 'historical' in terms of numbers. Personally want to keep Successor Infantry and Illyrian Lancers, mostly cause I heard Ardiaeis other cavalry was utterly useless and I love the Seleucids. Agree with most everything else.

I think a few units could be kept, but changed. So for example, turn the sucsessor infantry into a high-attack spear unit and only make it available as a bodyguard. For some units (say the persian pikes), they could be remade as a late-game unit and made worse. And eventually, it'd be awesome to make a Roman-style reformation of troops. I hope this isn't too far-fetched, but I think the immersion would be better with this.

good feedback. since there's be a new dlc soon, you will find some roster changes already but please do not take them as final. i like your guys' ideas, especially if it comes to changing certain units instead of removing them, so that they get a different role. thanks for participating in the discussion as well :csgogun:

I like Germanic Spear Guard, they resemble the Chosen Swordsmen from Rome 1. I suppose if you remove them there will still be Germanic Guard. Also I second the request to remove naked hoplites. They just don't fit, in my opinion, and the AI uses them so much.
Cenred_58 17 Dec, 2014 @ 8:07pm
I am really likeing the look of these new changes, The new syracuse roster makes it look a little more interesting, less like Athens than the base game. I also like the buffs to pontus, with the mod they were lacking seom of the powerful units that the other factions have.
cedi  [developer] 22 Dec, 2014 @ 1:06pm
glad you like it. feel free to shoot more suggestions.
@Cody38: hey how's it going friend :) germanic spear guard is gone now but germanic guard remains. and yes, the naked hoplites are .. a fail. it's a shame i have to use muscular barbarian bodies to picture them because there is no tiny greek body version :D
HighKnightsHemplar 15 Jan, 2015 @ 10:25pm
personally i think the mass majority of your work is flawless. but theres a few factions i feel could have been better. the illyrian, thracian, and dacian units dont really sit with me all that well. forinstance i always really disliked how the dacian falx noble unit had greek skins with no beards. while the other units that you gave the getae had dacian skins and beards. another thing id like to comment about is the nomads. its cool you added infantry units for them. but i really wish culturally they looked different. they look exactly the same for every faction that has them even tho factions like the massagetae were of alot of iranain ancestry. i know there is a really good cultural identity mod out there and i do use it alot. but it never really added any units infantry units besides one cool sword unit for scythia.

overall the factions id like to see not have your units would be
illyrian factions
dacian factions
odrysian kingdom
all the stepped nomad factions.

Hi there champ. First I'd like to say your work is magnificent! I prefer the vanilla battle system, so it's great to see someone who's crafting cool units balanced around vanilla Rome 2. This and your Alexander the Great mod I consider essential.

Now, since I'm commenting in this thread, I also have a question about a unit that was removed from the roster to my surprise. I haven't been able to use them, but by the pics I've seen Spears of Ares is one of the most badass looking units you've created. Is it possible to re-add Spears of Ares to the mod? You can assign it to a major Hellenic faction of your choice. If you feel it would overpower the said faction too much, I'd be happy even if you cap it to only 1 per army.

I just love the black armor. It makes it special and reminds me of Myrmidons a little. Btw, I tried Wolfman's mod, but Achiles' Myrmidons are waaay too overpowered. They hack through any elite unit in the game with ease even without using any abilities (they have so many of them too), and that considering they have half the number of men compared to a standard unit. Even though they are capped to one per army, it still doesn't help as you can win a war with them alone. I understand it's a legendary unit or whatever, but I also want to care a bit for that one unit. And that's where Spears of Ares comes in. I don't know what their stats were, but I guess it could be compared to Legionari Extraordinari (them bearing Ares' name and looking so... noble). Even if it's slightly better than the best Roman infantry unit, them being capped to 1 or 2 at max shouldn't be too overpowering for any Hellenic faction it's assigned to.

I hope you consider bringing the unit back on the condition of capping it, if the reason for removing it was indeed the fact that you felt it made Athens too powerful.

Thank you for your quality mods and keep up the good work :)

Edit: found your mediafire file that brings back removed units. Applied the mod and it works. Thanks a bunch! Although it would be really nice if they could be kept up-to-date, but I guess that's more work for units you're not even going to include in your main mod anyway.
