I agre with you for their complete remake
I want to say for conclude, it will be better if:
-Unit should have the same shield form (but the pattern could be different of course)
-Unit should have almost the same armor between each other (only a few have a different armor)
-A little less variety of helmet for units if possible (Im talking about the athenian infantry, all these type of helmet, i like the fact that all helmet are different but too much is too much i think ...)
-Remove the helmet of horses please (i found this ugly)
-Put less barb for greek please (there is a invasion of barbs !! a lot of units have barbs)
And thats all for me :)
And I'd caution against going overboard with removing units-just because something was in history, it doesn't mean it'd stay the same when, say, the Baktrian's invade Rome. They'd pick things up, different ways of fighting and moving, from their enemies and alot of your units rather excellently simulate this as the game goes on.
I'd also suggest keeping the female nomad units in-historically nomads were much more open to the idea of a woman bashing in heads alongside them then western civilizations. I'd like to see more female units in general, but I doubt that'll happen.
And as a last note, if a faction lacks archers, which were, historically more or less a common feature to all civilizations, I'd like to see them left in. It doesn't make much sense to me otherwise.
These are just my thoughts, as a longtime Total War fan, Public History major and recent subscriber.
Massagetae:
chariots,
Roxolani:
Chariots,
and their
Royal Scythia
Chariots
Pontus:
remove pontic light archers (have nearly the same stats as eastern ones)
please make Bosporan cataphracts recruitable in campaign
remove the armenian melee cav. (redundant with the merc cappadocians)
please change pontic royal bowmen to cimmerian heavy archers (more historical, also ponic royal bowmen have really aweful armour and no heavy shot)
If you want to remove Mithridates vengeance I would slightly buff pontic legionaries (pontus had pretty good melee inf in real llife)
Athens:
naked hoplite (maybe cap them, the AI recruits them a lot and they are an odd unit)
Noble pikes,
Athenian Inf.
Massilia:
Massialian Gaurd
maybe tweak Massilian veterans (change their sheild to be more celtic, sort of a barbarian unit with higher attack).
Arverni:
Female archers
female warriors (or maybe change them to look like the unit card)
female light cav.
Romans:
the super elite unit infantry you added for rome, something to do with Mars (they already have a large number of super elites)
Selucids:
selucid chariots
Egypt:
Ptolemaic chariots
the cataphract camel horse archers.
Carthage:
Hannibal's elephants (they look really cool but are sort of a more eastern thing)
carthiginian chariots
chosen pikemen
Ardeai:
thorax pikes
and their shock cav.
Anyway, these are just my suggestions, any changes are obviously up to you. As usual great mod, adds a lot of great stuff.
@Cody38: hey how's it going friend :) germanic spear guard is gone now but germanic guard remains. and yes, the naked hoplites are .. a fail. it's a shame i have to use muscular barbarian bodies to picture them because there is no tiny greek body version :D
overall the factions id like to see not have your units would be
illyrian factions
dacian factions
odrysian kingdom
all the stepped nomad factions.
Now, since I'm commenting in this thread, I also have a question about a unit that was removed from the roster to my surprise. I haven't been able to use them, but by the pics I've seen Spears of Ares is one of the most badass looking units you've created. Is it possible to re-add Spears of Ares to the mod? You can assign it to a major Hellenic faction of your choice. If you feel it would overpower the said faction too much, I'd be happy even if you cap it to only 1 per army.
I just love the black armor. It makes it special and reminds me of Myrmidons a little. Btw, I tried Wolfman's mod, but Achiles' Myrmidons are waaay too overpowered. They hack through any elite unit in the game with ease even without using any abilities (they have so many of them too), and that considering they have half the number of men compared to a standard unit. Even though they are capped to one per army, it still doesn't help as you can win a war with them alone. I understand it's a legendary unit or whatever, but I also want to care a bit for that one unit. And that's where Spears of Ares comes in. I don't know what their stats were, but I guess it could be compared to Legionari Extraordinari (them bearing Ares' name and looking so... noble). Even if it's slightly better than the best Roman infantry unit, them being capped to 1 or 2 at max shouldn't be too overpowering for any Hellenic faction it's assigned to.
I hope you consider bringing the unit back on the condition of capping it, if the reason for removing it was indeed the fact that you felt it made Athens too powerful.
Thank you for your quality mods and keep up the good work :)
Edit: found your mediafire file that brings back removed units. Applied the mod and it works. Thanks a bunch! Although it would be really nice if they could be kept up-to-date, but I guess that's more work for units you're not even going to include in your main mod anyway.
