Find Some Good Weapons And Ammo Then Seek Cover In The Lab Before The Mercs Come, Hang in the lab for a bit and find all the loot. if you feel safe enough to fight the mercs You Can Go Out.

There are some items that you can find that give you BIG BUFFS. i would try and find at least 2 before fighting mercs unless you are skilled with the fighting in valley. (i am not going to say what the items are, sorry. but you'll know it when you find it)

if you get the material piercing rifle, the ammo for it at the lab/ammo kit, you could easily kill the mercenaries from a range
