VTOL VR

VTOL VR

Manhattan shut down

Map: Operation NYC Shut Down constantly crashing on startup
I have tried to start this map over 50 attempts with the longest playtime being 10 - 15 minutes but mostly it crashes as soon as I move my virtual hands inside the cockpit or attempt to start up the AH-94.

All built in missions work flawlessly. This is one of many workshop maps that will not work or crash mid campaign regardless.

I seems to be able to play longer if i change VTOL's .exe file's affinity to use only CPU cores 0,2,4,6 and set the .EXE priority to high via Task Manager. This action tends to minimise the CPU spiking shown in fpsVR however, it will crash after some minutes.

This is the only VR game I have in my games catalogue that consistently crashes like this.

Specs

CPU: i7 6500K 4.6 GHz - Water cooled
Memory: 16 GB DDR4
GPU: GTX 1080

I would also point out that in this game, my GPU /CPU rarely go over 50% utilisation although the spiking is ridiculously high. I even run VTOL at 75% Super Sample rate set within steam on a per application basis to take some of the rendering pressure off but still crashes.

Once the game is loaded, I note my GPU used 5.6/8GB VRAM and the map size is stated at 35 MB so I think not a memory issue.

I have the I have tried to start this map over 50 attempts with the longest playtime being 10 minutes but mostly it crashes as soon as I move my virtual hands inside the cockpit or attempt to start up the AH-94.

Even after a totally fresh restart, the same problem s persist although all built in missions work without crashing.

1. I have the latest update of VTOL
2. I have verified the game files many times
3. Minimised all background tasks / processes
4. Rechecked all window 10 files

Any assistance would be appreciated

sorry for the very delayed response.
Have you tried turning your computer off and back on again...?
I'm joking.
This seems like a very weird case and I can see you have gone through the most common fixes and problems with little to no eval.

Also make sure you are not running any mods like the mod loader. And make sure you are not on public testing. (you can check this but right clicking on the game icon on steam then clicking properties and then checking the “BETAS” tab and checking if the selected beta is on none)

I'm not sure if this will fix the problem but you might be able to look at your games log files and try and find the problem or error message that the game is creating.

You can get access to the log file by first pressing "WIN+R" or "run" in the Microsoft search bar.
Then once its open copy and paste into the input box "%appdata%\..\LocalLow\Boundless Dynamics, LLC\VTOLVR" then a directory should open. in this folder there will be a file named "player" or "player.log" this will contain lots of information on crashes and error. (No personal information like IP's.) You can take a look at them and see if you spot anything, or you can send them to me over discord where I can take a look at them.

If you have any problems or you want to send your log files you can contact me over discord.

I have also made a multi-player free flight on the same map if you want to see if you have the same problem with that mission.

Thank you for your reply however, after my own investigations, I found my own solution which I posted for others having the same problem. You can read my solution post from this link:

https://steamhost.cn/steamcommunity_com/app/667970/discussions/0/3449213285579382170/

Previously I did send the VTOL report and was informed it was an "out of memory" issue which I found hard to believe because I could see my memory usage via fpsVR that I had memory spare and also task manager showed my system memory (16 GB) had free memory.

The moment I started to use the free version of Process Lasso and configured my CPU affinity so steamvr to use odd numbered cores and VTOL to use even numbered cores, the problem has been fixed. Since then, I have yet to come across a map I could not use plus, doing this evened out the GPU/CPU spikes making for a smoother game play and increased my FPS.

After searching the log file for "Error", according to my log from yesterday's game play, I can find only 4 errors:

1. ERROR: Shader Particles/MF-Overcast shader is not supported on this GPU (none of subshaders/fallbacks are suitable)
UnloadTime: 3.556400 ms

2. ERROR: Shader Particles/MF-Overcast shader is not supported on this GPU (none of subshaders/fallbacks are suitable)

3. ERROR: Shader Particles/MF-Overcast shader is not supported on this GPU (none of subshaders/fallbacks are suitable) - This is the same error further down the log file

4. SteamClient Shutdown
XRLoaderSelector.StopXR()
- Stopping Open VR Loader
- Error: It may have already been stopped.
Saving vehicle persistent data...

I will try to send you the most recent log file today.

Again, it is appreciated as the developer, you take the time to respond to these issue.
