Hidden Bonuses
I decided to take a look 'under the hood' for the units featured in this mod and found it to be quite interesting. They seem to be a bit more complicated than the other civs, once you factor in the types and bonuses. I still don't understand the purpose of the tanky infantry you unlock in Heroic Age at the Youth Barracks.

I'm also looking for some help in decoding the Shorn Warrior's bonuses. I didn't quite understand what they mean. I guess it's a x2 bonus vs. non-Aztec units?

The Cuextecatl (tank infantry) are a new type of unit and exactly as described, a tank infantry with no bonus against any other human unit. Their purpose is to serve as a front line alternative to the noble units, as they train slower and are more expensive. Aside from this unit, Aztecs have about the same number of units as the other civs in EE, they just take time getting used to.

Like the Greek Myrmidon they are meant to counter human units from the other civs, they also have a cleave attack that damage a couple units adjacent to the one they're attacking. However, they are a Mythic Age unit and can only be trained from the Calmecac (Aztec fortress) so they require a serious resource investment. Shorn Warriors were one of, if not the most elite class Aztec warriors. Btw, if you want to leave ideas/suggestions feel free to join the English discord...link in the mod description.

I ran some tests with the Shorn Warrior, and it seems to be bugged? It has less armour, but more speed than the Myrmidon, so that should account for some of the discrepancy. But the Myrmidon was taking very little damage of about 4-5 HP per strike, while doing upto 19 HP damage per strike. At base-line stats with no upgrades etc, the Myrmidon seems to survive with around 80 of its 120 HP left. Makes me think the Shorn Warrior's intended bonus isn't working properly? A 15% difference in armour doesn't account for such a huge difference between the two units. The Myrmidon should be left with an average of around 30/120 HP if the bonus was working as intended.

yes, we're aware the shorn warrior isn't strong enough. And you could be right about the bonus not working properly.

Thank you for taking note.

BTW can you help me with something else as well? I remember reading the changelog for the older civs in this mod somewhere, but now I can't find it. The only thing I remember is Gardens have their obstruction radius reduced from 4.0 to 3.5, right? I'm specifically looking for info on whether the Egyptian Khopesh Swordsmen are classed as 'runner' class infantry as well.

Runners are unique to Aztec, so the answer should be no.

Excellent compilation Devang! The changelog for the other civs can be found at the top of the proto file. (We wanted these to a bare minimum.) And yes the Shorn Warrior attack will be fixed in the next update, it is bugged. Their 1.5 bonus is vs. non-Aztec units (excluding designated counter infantry Hypaspist, Axeman, and Throwing Axeman). "CavalryAndScout" was only the unfortunate name used because unittypes are limited commodities in modding. Khopesh do not count as runners, altho Papalotl's and Eagle Knights do, so it's probably worth adding that here.

Ah ha! Thank you, thank you. I was going crazy trying to remember where I read the changelog in the first place. Just IMO the Khopesh should also be a 'FastInfantry' type unit as it fits the profile, and it would be something to nerf the unit a bit. Also great design on the Noble units, really interesting that they have a big malus against the class that's supposed to counter them

Good to know that the Shorn Warrior's bug is being tracked

I should give a head's up: In the patch we are currently working on, many of these bonuses change. Not drastically, pretty slight in fact, but since this compilation gives precise values it's important to note. And the Runner unitclass was added late in developement while much of the bonuses were made early and so most replacements of "RunnerAztec" with "FastSpeed" required a bit more tinkering. Lastly, the Coyote Priest is the only unit to be classed as a Runner WITHOUT also being classed as an infantry, a slight monkey wrench.

I must admit, marking Khopesh as Runners is growing on me, altho it's not yet implemented.

Is there an ETA on the patch?
nate_e  [developer] 24 Nov, 2022 @ 9:24am
No. We're really hoping to get Tlalocan done this time!
