this suggestion depends on what direction you are heading in:
maybe add an underground prison area and above-ground add some barbed wire fences around the map boundaries with a entrance gate with a trail leading away, that might make it at least feel like it has a long history behind it. This suggestion is based on personal preference however, so maybe it won't provide the same general vibe that I get to some other people

also maybe add a 3d skybox, it'll make the map look better. I would suggest a forest surrounding the place
