Childhood Backstories

Aspiring hunter
[PAWN_nameDef] greatly admired the hunters of [PAWN_possessive] tribe. [PAWN_pronoun] would often shirk [PAWN_possessive] chores to sneak away and practice with [PAWN_possessive] toy bow and arrow.

Child warrior
After many years of war with a much stronger tribe, [PAWN_nameDef]’s people were all but wiped out. With very few able-bodied adults left to fight, the children of the tribe, including [PAWN_nameDef], were forced to take up arms to defend their homes and loved ones.

Apprentice healer
[PAWN_nameDef] was chosen to be trained as a healer. [PAWN_possessive] tribe’s kindly medicine woman was a skilled and patient teacher, and taught [PAWN_nameDef] how to tend to the sick, as well as how to grow healing herbs.

Raised by wolves
Whether on purpose or by accident, [PAWN_nameDef] was somehow seperated from [PAWN_possessive] parents as a baby. A pack of wolves came across the helpless infant and adopted [PAWN_objective] as one of their own. It wasn’t until many years later that [PAWN_nameDef] was finally found by a tribe of [PAWN_possessive] own species. By then, it was too late for [PAWN_objective] to fully learn many fundamental social skills.

Apprentice weaver
[PAWN_nameDef] dexterously spun loose fibres into thread, which [PAWN_possessive] teacher then wove into clothing and other textiles for the tribe. [PAWN_nameDef] favourite part of [PAWN_possessive] work was helping to pick and prepare the plants for making the colourful dyes that were used for the thread.

Banished child
[PAWN_nameDef]’s actions led to the death of one [PAWN_possessive] tribe’s most sacred animals. While normally the punishment for such a crime was death, the tribe elders’ took [PAWN_nameDef]’s young age into account, and instead sent [PAWN_objective] to live with another tribe.

Creepy child
The other children of [PAWN_nameDef]’s tribe always did their best to avoid [PAWN_objective]. Even the adults gave [PAWN_objective] a wide berth. There was just something off about [PAWN_objective]. [PAWN_nameDef] spent most of [PAWN_possessive] time alone, throwing rocks at defenseless animals.

Twig collector
[PAWN_nameDef] helped to collect twigs and branches to keep [PAWN_possessive] tribe’s fires lit. [PAWN_pronoun] enjoyed stacking the twigs up into little forts and tepees, discovering how to make sturdier and sturdier versions of the tiny structures.

Winterborn
According to the beliefs of [PAWN_nameDef]’s tribe, children who are born during harsh winters and survive are destined to become mighty warriors. [PAWN_nameDef] was born during just such a winter.

Child of an exile
[PAWN_nameDef]’s mother was exiled from her village while she was pregnant with [PAWN_objective]. She raised [PAWN_nameDef] alone as best she could, teaching [PAWN_objective] how to survive in the wilderness without the support of a tribe.

Tree climber
[PAWN_nameDef] loved climbing trees more than anything else. [PAWN_pronoun] could climb higher than any of the other children in [PAWN_possessive] tribe, and enjoyed spending time watching the world below from up in the branches of the tallest trees.

Doll maker
[PAWN_nameDef] was often put in charge of watching over the younger children. To entertain them, [PAWN_pronoun] learned to make dolls out of dried leaves. [PAWN_possessive] dolls were so popular that [PAWN_pronoun] was eventually given other, more valuable, materials to make them with.

Troublemaker
[PAWN_nameDef] was constantly up to no good. Stealing and hiding things, harassing animals, and taunting the other children, [PAWN_pronoun] always found a way to make a nuisance of [PAWN_objective]self. As punishment, [PAWN_nameDef] was often sent to bed with no supper, but [PAWN_pronoun] would simply sneak out of bed and cook something for [PAWN_objective]self.

Child of the chief
As the firstborn of [PAWN_possessive] tribe’s chief, [PAWN_nameDef]’s training as the tribe’s future leader began almost from birth. [PAWN_pronoun] was taught that a wise leader must always carefully listen to what [PAWN_possessive] people want, but never lose sight of what they need.

Bait collector
[PAWN_nameDef] dug in the dirt to collect worms and grubs for [PAWN_possessive] tribe’s fishers to use as bait. When [PAWN_pronoun] was particularly successful, [PAWN_pronoun] would feed some of the spare bugs to the birds, daydreaming about what it might be like to fly as [PAWN_pronoun] watched them.

Mud mixer
[PAWN_nameDef] helped to mix the mud and clay mixture that [PAWN_possessive] tribe’s builders used to make bricks. The builders often allowed [PAWN_objective] to watch them work, teaching [PAWN_objective] the best way to lay the bricks to create sturdy structures.

Cannibal child
[PAWN_nameDef]’s tribe faced starvation when [PAWN_pronoun] was barely a year old. Desperate to keep their child alive, [PAWN_nameDef]‘s parents did what they felt they had to do, and fed [PAWN_objective] the flesh of a tribe member who had recently died.

Board game master
[PAWN_nameDef] loved to play board games and was constantly begging the other children of [PAWN_possessive] village to play The Game of Ur with [PAWN_objective]. A kind craftsman noticed [PAWN_nameDef]’s passion, and showed [PAWN_objective] how to make [PAWN_possessive] own custom gameboard.

Ward of the tribe
[PAWN_nameDef] was sent to live with another tribe in order to secure and strengthen an alliance. Because the alliance would fall apart if [PAWN_pronoun] was harmed, [PAWN_nameDef] was assigned the relatively safe job of helping to mind the cooking fires.

Plague survivor
When plague struck [PAWN_nameDef]’s tribe, [PAWN_pronoun] was the only child to survive. [PAWN_pronoun] was quite lonely growing up, having no peers [PAWN_possessive] own age to talk to.

Rock collector
[PAWN_nameDef] spent [PAWN_possessive] free time collecting different types of rocks and minerals. [PAWN_pronoun] sometimes made simple jewelry out of [PAWN_possessive] favourite stones by tying them with twine.

Curious child
[PAWN_nameDef] was naturally curious, constantly asking the adults of [PAWN_possessive] tribe questions about how things worked. Although this annoyed some, others were happy to teach [PAWN_nameDef] what [PAWN_pronoun] wanted to know.

Spoiled child
[PAWN_nameDef] grew up during a time of plenty in a family that was particularly wealthy. [PAWN_pronoun] enjoyed being the envy of the other children in the village, and frequently got into fights and arguments.

Caravan child
[PAWN_nameDef] frequently travelled with a trading caravan, helping the adults by tending to the pack animals. [PAWN_pronoun] got to see far-off places and met many interesting people.

Rat chaser
[PAWN_nameDef] helped to chase away rats and other pests from [PAWN_possessive] village’s grain stores. [PAWN_pronoun] loved to play with the cats that hunted near the storage house.

Cursed child
[PAWN_nameDef] was frequently sick as a child, coming close to death many times. [PAWN_possessive] family believed [PAWN_pronoun] had been hexed by an evil witch doctor, and tried all manner of rituals and prayers in order to remove the curse. [PAWN_nameDef] became somewhat good at identifying plants from constantly being around healing herbs.

Child sacrifice
[PAWN_nameDef] was chosen to be one of the children who were annually sacrificed to [PAWN_possessive] tribe’s gods, something that was considered a great honour. However, when the time came, [PAWN_nameDef] ran away. [PAWN_pronoun] survived on roots and berries in the wild until a different tribe, who worshiped gods that did not demand death, found [PAWN_objective].

Stolen child
[PAWN_nameDef] was barely a toddler when [PAWN_pronoun] was kidnapped from [PAWN_possessive] settlement in a raid. The tribe who stole [PAWN_objective] believed that the advanced technology [PAWN_possessive] people had was magic, and that [PAWN_nameDef] was magic too. Although [PAWN_pronoun] did not manifest magical powers, the superior nutrition [PAWN_nameDef] received as an infant meant [PAWN_pronoun] was stronger than the other children in the tribe.

Adulthood Backstories

Sacred dancer
[PAWN_nameDef]’s tribe believed that a bountiful harvest could be ensured by performing ceremonial dances. To learn to perform these complex dances properly, [PAWN_nameDef] had to spend most of [PAWN_possessive] time practicing, leaving little room for developing other skills.

Future chief
[PAWN_nameDef] was next in line to become the chief of [PAWN_possessive] tribe. [PAWN_pronoun] performed many of the duties that a chief would, such as resolving disputes and assisting in performing important ceremonies. [PAWN_nameDef] was very well-liked, and almost everyone agreed that [PAWN_pronoun] would be a wonderful leader.

Escaped sacrifice
[PAWN_nameDef] was the sole survivor of another tribe’s raid on [PAWN_possessive] village. Taken prisoner, [PAWN_pronoun] was intended as a sacrifice to appease the enemy’s bloodthirsty god. Through strength, cunning, and luck, [PAWN_nameDef] made a daring escape.

Calendar keeper
[PAWN_nameDef] was responsible for keeping track of counting the days for [PAWN_possessive] tribe. [PAWN_possessive] job involved tracking lunar cycles, studying constellations, and predicting the optimal growing seasons.

Beast master
[PAWN_nameDef] was believed to have supernatural powers that allowed [PAWN_objective] to tame any animal. [PAWN_pronoun] was often called upon when dangerous creatures were spotted near [PAWN_possessive] village in order to soothe the wild beasts.

Monument carver
[PAWN_nameDef] carved large stone monuments to honour [PAWN_possessive] tribe’s ancestors. [PAWN_nameDef] preferred to work in silent solitude, and hated when others tried to speak to [PAWN_objective] while [PAWN_pronoun] worked.

Bowyer
[PAWN_nameDef] crafted bows for [PAWN_possessive] tribe to hunt with. Naturally, to make the best bows, [PAWN_nameDef] had to become skilled at using them. [PAWN_pronoun] often found [PAWN_objective]self teaching the children of the tribe how to shoot their very first arrows.

Lookout
[PAWN_nameDef] watched for danger while the rest of [PAWN_possessive] tribe went about their business. While standing guard, [PAWN_nameDef] would practice [PAWN_possessive] marksmanship, attempting to shoot specific leaves from trees. [PAWN_pronoun] was often scolded for wasting arrows, but always managed to charm [PAWN_possessive] way out of trouble.

Night watch
While the rest of [PAWN_possessive] tribe slept, [PAWN_nameDef] kept watch for danger lurking in the night. [PAWN_pronoun] spent so much time in quiet darkness, that [PAWN_pronoun] found the hustle and bustle of the day time to be unbearable.

Captured pillager
[PAWN_nameDef] was taken prisoner during one of [PAWN_possessive] tribe’s raids on a neighbouring village. [PAWN_possessive] captors showed [PAWN_objective] remarkable kindness, and [PAWN_nameDef] was soon consumed with regret for [PAWN_possessive] violent ways. [PAWN_nameDef] took up the hobby of tending to flowers, wanting to bring happiness and beauty to the world instead of destruction.

Kinslayer
[PAWN_nameDef] was guilty of what [PAWN_possessive] tribe considered to be the worst crime possible: killing a member of one’s own family. [PAWN_nameDef] was to be put to death, but escaped and fled as far as [PAWN_pronoun] could.

Broken slave
[PAWN_nameDef] was kept as a slave by a small but vicious tribe. The extreme abuse [PAWN_pronoun] suffered made [PAWN_objective] withdrawn and utterly incapable of fighting back. No one thought [PAWN_pronoun] would ever attempt an escape until, one day, [PAWN_pronoun] did.

Desperate scavenger
[PAWN_nameDef]’s homeland was struck by a terrible famine. Many members of [PAWN_possessive] tribe starved to death, and a few even turned to cannibalism. To keep [PAWN_objective]self alive, [PAWN_nameDef] scavenged for roots, insects, and even carrion

Water carrier
[PAWN_nameDef] collected water from the river that flowed near [PAWN_possessive] tribe’s village, carrying water in large, heavy containers to wherever it was needed.

Messenger
[PAWN_nameDef] carried messages to and from [PAWN_possessive] tribe’s village. [PAWN_pronoun] got to meet many different people, and always tried to find the time to chat and get to know them better.

Waste hauler
[PAWN_nameDef] had the job of hauling waste away from [PAWN_possessive] tribe’s homes and living areas. Many members of the tribe considered [PAWN_nameDef] to be dirty because of this, and refused to speak to [PAWN_objective].

Vision guide
With the aid of hallucinogenic plants, [PAWN_nameDef] helped to guide members of [PAWN_possessive] tribe on their spiritual journeys.

Fur trader
[PAWN_nameDef] traveled far and wide, trading the furs of the creatures [PAWN_possessive] tribe hunted for other goods. [PAWN_pronoun] was skilled with words, and was always able to make a favourable deal.

Record keeper
[PAWN_nameDef] recorded important information relating to trade using clay tablets and small knotted ropes. [PAWN_pronoun] kept track of numbers and values and helped to resolve disputes.

Club hunter
[PAWN_nameDef] hunted for food for [PAWN_possessive] tribe using a large club. [PAWN_pronoun] refused to use a bow and arrow like the other hunters, much preferring to bludgeon things to death.

Sacred tree tender
[PAWN_nameDef] tended to [PAWN_possessive] tribe’s sacred tree, meditating beneath it in order to commune with it and ascertain its needs. [PAWN_nameDef]’s tree-assigned duties included keeping the area around it clear of any man-made structures, bringing it water during the dry months, and encouraging pest-eating creatures to live near it.

Cave painter
[PAWN_nameDef] painted the stories of [PAWN_possessive] tribe on the walls of the cave system that they dwelt in. From commemorating marriages, births, and deaths, memorializing great hunts, and depicting important aspects of the tribe’s belief system, [PAWN_nameDef] was kept busy and seldom had a chance to wander outside.

Plough puller
After a famine, [PAWN_nameDef]’s tribe lacked any animals that could help them plough their fields. Determined not to allow [PAWN_possessive] people to starve any longer, [PAWN_nameDef] used all of [PAWN_possessive] strength to pull the ploughs [PAWN_objective]self.

Tracker
[PAWN_nameDef] was an essential part of any hunting party for [PAWN_possessive] uncanny ability to track prey over long distances, even in the most unfavourable conditions.

Spirit speaker
[PAWN_nameDef] would occasionally feel… strange. As though something far away was affecting [PAWN_possessive] thoughts. A wise elder told [PAWN_objective] that [PAWN_pronoun] had the ability to hear the spirit world. Members of [PAWN_nameDef]’s tribe would ask [PAWN_objective] for advice from the spirits, which [PAWN_pronoun] tried [PAWN_possessive] best to give.

Fraudulent witch doctor
[PAWN_nameDef] enjoyed the prestige and power that came from being [PAWN_possessive] tribe’s witch doctor. [PAWN_nameDef] would invent fake ailments that [PAWN_pronoun] would claim [PAWN_pronoun] "knew" tribe members were suffering from in order to keep [PAWN_possessive] place of importance secure. In most cases, [PAWN_nameDef] would prescribe useless placebo herbs. Other times, [PAWN_pronoun] used mild poisons to make [PAWN_possessive] lies seem more legitimate.

Crazed warrior
After surviving a battle that turned into a massacre, something in [PAWN_nameDef] simply snapped. [PAWN_pronoun] would constantly mutter to [PAWN_objective]self, get into fights with inanimate objects, and scream at random. Sometimes, [PAWN_nameDef] would attempt to injure [PAWN_objective]self, always eerily silent as [PAWN_pronoun] did so.
