Can RV Int. code be used to "enter" (create) a subterranean area?

Has anyone tried creating a mod that could allow use of another type of object (manhole cover?) as a portal to something of an underground / sewer, or an elevator, basement, etc?
It feels like the RV Interior code could be adapted(?)
