Lore for Cardinal, Albatross and Terns
Vorombe Republic
Prior to the Great Wars, the Republic was a proud and mighty state. Fielding a formidable army and thriving economy, it was looking to surpass even the Federation and Union. Originally an ally to the Union, it posed a serious threat to the Federation and its allies if war were to break out. When the war broke out, a divide between the Republican council formed consisting of 2 main players, the pro-Union on one side and the anti-war party on the other.

As the Great Wars raged on, casualties mounted on all sides, with the Republic being continuously hit with setbacks. Most notable of which was the disastrous Operation Bleeding Tuah. The plan was to mount a surprise assault, breaking through Federation lines and capturing the capital Beningrad as well as seizing important oil deposits. Federation defences were initially overwhelmed, being forced to retreat, Poor planning and logistics however allowed for a Federation counterattack which encircled Republican forces. Placed under siege for 41 days behind enemy lines, the 3rd and 42nd Republican Corps was forced to surrender or face complete annihilation. With a sizable chunk of the Republican army wiped out, public opinion soon began to drift apart, with a lot of politicians calling for an end to the bloodshed.

Such news did not sit well with the Republican council, who blamed the anti-war party for sabotaging the Operation, while the party denied any responsibility and simply claimed that the disaster was due to sheer incompetence. Increasing political infighting led to the continued degradation of the senate, the Union saw this as an opportunity and sent troops to “restore order” (when it was just occupying land). After an incident where opposition members ambushed a Union patrol, the Council passed a bill outlawing every opposition group as traitors, soon after the Republic split into 3 states, the Albatrosses(pro Eagle), the Cardinals(pro Union), and the Terns(pro Kestrels).
Such a split drastically lowered the military capabilities of each state, and so each of them had to sue for peace to prevent the destruction of their newly formed states.

Cardinals
Seeing themselves as the rightful successors to the former Republic, the Cardinals have invested heavily into restoring their former military capabilities in hopes of subduing the traitorous Albatrosses and Terns, although the large amount of land and manpower lost during the Great Wars prevents it from becoming a serious threat to the Federation and Union anytime soon. Despite this, the Cardinals have become a top quality arms manufacturer, due with them managing to get hold of the best engineers in the former Republic prior to the peace settlement. This resulted in the Cardinals making an economic resurgence, gaining wealth never seen since the glory days of the Republic. Notable creations include the hugely successful and popular F36, as well as the CROCODILE IFV. Its army, although small, is still highly capable. Relying on quality personnel and cutting edge technology, they can still pose a formidable threat which can give standard Albatross and Tern forces a run for their money.

LOTUS
The process of producing special forces units is a long and tedious one, for LOTUS squad it is no different. Each candidate must have at least 5 years of military service and must undergo a rigorous selection process in which only 1 in 10 candidates can officially enter. The result? Tough and hardy and experts in stealth and marksmanship, rivalling the best of the best in the Union and Federation. Having received training from RAZOR personnel and equipped with top of the line equipment, these men strike fear into anyone foolish enough to face them.

Albatrosses
After the peace settlement, the Albatrosses wasted no time in allying with the Federation, in hopes of both economic and military aid. With much of the battles during the Great Wars having taken place in Albatross lands, a large sum of money had to be allocated to rebuilding war torn cities and industries. As such they don’t have much money to spend on their military, relying mostly on the Federation’s surplus and old Republic stockpiles. Under constant threat by both the Cardinals and Terns, every able-bodied man has to undergo mandatory military service for 6 months in order to maintain sufficient manpower. Lucky ones can even receive direct training from Federation special forces. Thanks to this along with Federation aid, it has been able to make a steady recovery and even the playing field

Units
Woodland Infantry (1st Infantry)

Snow (1th Expeditionary Force)

CROCUS
Formed from the shattered remnants of the former Republican special forces and the best of the 3rd Republican corps, the formation of CROCUS was anything but smooth. Having faced many budget cuts and opposition from politicians, it was thanks to Federation aid and equipment that kept the program afloat. CROCUS members had to make due with what they had, being equipped with relatively low end Federation surplus. As a result, members have become accustomed to adapt in any situation with minimal supplies. After more than 2 decades of hardship, the Albatrosses had managed to sufficiently fund their own military, with CROCUS finally being able to afford top quality equipment. Although not as well equipped as Cardinal and Union special forces, they are still well trained and hardy, having regular training with TALON squad and Falcon special forces. These men are the cream of the crop of the Albatross Defense Forces, and their outstanding performance speaks for themselves.

Terns
The youngest of the successor states, the formation of the Tern state originated from political infighting within the pro-Union party, where 12 senators and a few generals seceded from the Cardinals. Shortly they called for the Alliance to liberate them, in which they happily obliged. Under Alliance occupation, neither the Cardinals nor the Albatrosses had the military capabilities to subdue them. After the peace settlement, although still technically a country of its own, most people view it as an unofficial extension of the Alliance, with high ranking government officials being replaced by pro-Kestrel puppets. Much of its military utilizes the same equipment as the Kestrels, albeit with slightly more advanced equipment thanks to preexisting industries from the old Republic.
