Left 4 Dead 2

Deadbeat Escape (Part 1 of 2)
Kyle's Review of "Deadbeat Escape" - 5/5
Truly exceptional level design. 5/5 stars.

I hadn't heard much about Deadbeat Escape going into it, but this campaign might have some of the most engaging and well constructed level design I've ever seen in L4D2. It's not enough that all four maps progress through a variety of lengthy, detailed locations with a moody atmosphere from start to finish. No, this author had to go and make the gameplay noticeably superb as well. What a show-off! ;)

Much like in I Hate Mountains, this campaign is all about split paths that lead to the same destination -- but here the paths are much shorter, encouraging you to explore them both if you have the time. Almost every environment is built "off the grid" with very few right angles, making the maps highly believable places. Combined with the maps' incredible density that leaves no space wasted, surprises are around every corner.

The only complaint I could possibly muster is a lack of graffiti and dialogue. Still, this is truly Left 4 Dead at its best!
