Feel free to post future feedback here because steam comments have a character limit, probably should have done this sooner
Anyways the main purpose of this rn is to get feedback on a google doc I made with ideas for X's moveset, mainly because I still don't feel content with X's moveset at the moment
It's hard to describe why but playing him just feels wrong, so maybe I just need to redo a few moves entirely

This has a few ideas for Fair, Bair, Nair, Dash attack, and gameplay mechanics
I'd like to know which of the moves for each section would suit X best or if you have any other suggestions for his moveset

If you're still conflicted on Air attack ideas, maybe something for Bair that might feel better suited is a kick that utilizes the dash boost effect. Might be considered just a kick with the dash effect as visual flair, but I feel like it'd make more sense for X's toolset

As for changes regarding the google doc this is my input (Although im glad there are gonna be more references to his other games than just moves from MVCI)

For Fair the chop blast (Although i get its a placeholder) its better how it is now but in motion it looks and just feels overall weird and still has a hard time comboing into itself, and personally i cant see much use it would get with his current kit cause i think it would just get outclassed by other things and it being harder to land with a lacking reward(especially with the charge shot dash which is also why its a big turn off) would just make it become useless. Its a cool move however but i dont think it fits personally

The Tornado fang i remember it being X old back air from a different workshop X way back in the day and it was very similar in context and i also remember it just being really strange to overall use and i just never used it and i dont think it really fits forward air that well considering how small it is i think it would just be a nuisance to hit due to how small it is and again would be hell to use with the charge shot dash (However dash attack is a different story but ill get into that later)

Magma Blade contrary i think it fits better than any of the previous ones and would just be a good combo finisher (However i think it would be better as an F smash personally) I think having both X and Zero have moves that complement each others kit (Like Zero having a buster and X having a Zsaber move) is really cool and i think you would have a much better time with it and i think it would just fit better than the two other options, Even if its similar to the as current forward air i think you could have more flexibility with what you could do with it maybe have it consistant throughout sword and having it have some burn damage and make it weaker than his current F air (and not only that there are really no X6 references in his kit that i can think so that would be a nice inclusion) and not only that it would fit into dash to charge shot better. This is my favorite F air on the list

Nairs i have a little bit to say

The Sex kick i dont really have too much to say on tbh its somthing to just throw out to give your opponent some distance and maybe combo off of but tbh i dont really feel like its THAT unique, Not a bad idea however i think there are better choices

The Combo Kicks is one of the ones i like more personally although theres not too much to say on it as well other than how it currently is, to give it more percent and maybe more airtime

Rolling shield I absolutely love and im actually suprised we havent had a shield move already. X really doesnt have that many good get off me tools that i can really think of and i think this would fit perfectly and honestly would fit X. Say maybe he has invincibility/armor at the start but when the blast is used it has a ton of lag so it cant be spammed. Honestly my favorite one so far

Bairs

Metal Anchor ever since it was removed i always kind of wanted it back i do think its a really good move and is really unique (and since its no longer in his weapon wheel i think it would make more sense) i think it could create better combo scenarios for him that he couldnt get if he used up air and it could almost easily fit into his combo game

Spinning blade i personally thinks gets outclassed by the other two and honestly just seems like metal anchor but it sends backwards personally i think it would be more creative if he threw it and caught it (although then it would just be Boomerang Cutter)

Strike chain i think fits the best personally him being a zoner and all and its a really cool concept and i think with the sweetspot could create some unique charge shot or even special weapon scenarios. And not only that it could also make his disadvantage state offstage a bit better say if he can pull himself closer to stage to avoid an attack. Personally i think this has the most potential and would love to see it

Dash attack

The shoulder tackle i like however judging by the animation i think it looks too similar to samus dash attack and i think could have some minor tweeks to make it more unique. say it would be cooler if he actually dashed forward (trails included) with his shoulder it would be fast hit hard but also having some endlag say having him skirt to a stop if he missed. although im kind of also suprised that his main dash move comes from Charge shot and i think would be also cool if his dash attack would also make him dash as well

Tornado fang for Dash attack i like a lot more than Fair for dash attack considering it is a drill and having it plow forward would be cooler and the special weapon theme also would make him more unique again (and a project X zone reference would add some diversity) I like the concept of him dashing forward for his dash attack but honestly i would think it would be better if it was a multi hit that sends upwards although it has shorter range and help him start combos even

Sonic Slicer (i was actually thinking of dash attack similar to this for a character of mine) its a really cool idea and fits with the the special weapon theme and there are little to no dash attacks that put you in the air thats what makes it unique however this one is the hardest to imagine what it could really potentaily do considering theres not a lot of detail for it. A cool idea however i think more info would need to be said on it.

New mechanics...

Honestly combine the two into one i think is the best option and would allow the best of both worlds, i like both ideas (although id be lying if i didnt say i like the armor mechanic more) so here are my thoughts

As i said the armors I love however with the current concept theres not much incentive to use it because of the buffs are not really that great if ANYTHING i think all of his attacks should get 3 percent more damage rather than 1 and maybe extra movement speed but the extra charge shot is also really cool on top of that. The Special weapon cancelling i feel if base X had it no matter if it cost double ammo it would be really stupid and make him potentially spammy at all times and people would just complain and people would also have much more to worry about when it comes to his special weapons and i think adding it to an install would make it more balanced

(and honestly i think it would also fit lore wise as well cause the armor IS supposed to improve X's Special weapons lol)

For summoning the armor i have two ideas

One you could go the guilty gear strive route and have him be like ky and at 100 percent last stock X crouches and taunts and freezes the game for a second and summons the armor and gets it permanently as sort of a last hope comeback mechanic thing

X with max weapon energy on all weapons could summon the armor (again taunt and crouch) at any time but with a time limit say for like 10 to 30 seconds however after he would either not gain weapon energy or just have special weapons disabled for the stock

And also just unlimited armor as a rune would just be really ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ cool

And as for what armor choice to be represented the ultimate armor would be the best choice and maybe even the plasma charge shot especially for the alternate costumes getting a theme around them aka Command Mission and MMZ

However if i really had to choose one and it would be too time consuming to potentially merge the two i like the Armor system better and would personally like to see that more, The special weapon cancel system i feel just as base X would be too broken even with its drawbacks i think it could potentially just make him overy rely on spam at points and just make him a pain to fight

There are a ton of good ideas here and these are all my takes on them. Honestly glad you asked for feedback so others could get input and hope everything goes well with the project. if i have anything else to i can FINALLY just edit this lol

Just a small comment i know hes not that finished yet but hes actually a lot more fun to play than what he was before, I do think these 2 new moves actually fit his current kit more and hell even makes boomerang cutter work better now that he has a Fast option he can just react to the angles it can send with rather than predicting over a really nice job i think the changes are really good. I Know balancing and cosmetic stuff isnt your top priority so ill just wait for a future update to give more thoughts when he actually has more "functional" and theres a lot more to work with.

He seems to be in a pretty ok spot right now but i still wish for the X Buster to be put on forward special and the special weapons to stay on neutral. its just such a hassle to switch around on the fly and the ice shard dosent feel very good on forward special at all. also the additional endlag on new dash attack feels pretty bad. alot of moves also need some sounds still.

Id rather have charge shot stay as N special and special weapons be F special if it were to change (Part of me thinks is should change because frost shield use to be apart of the weapon wheel and i actually think its really good compared to something like Ray Splasher which in my opinion is just taking up space and has really little use compared to something like Frost shield that has way more practicalities and infinite ammo, and Charge shot has infinite ammo in itself although i get he would probably be more spammy however id argue that due to just the way frost shield sends it could lead to more oppressive scenarios cause of how slow it is and what it covers then charge shot especially at ledge and with him now leaving shards in the ground) Most Projectile characters have there "Main Firing type" or even just bread and butter projectiles as Neutral special and X is main weapon both in game and of choice in Lore is his X buster not all of his special weapons (and Gameplay wise it would just make moves such as using Speedburner incredibly weird if they were to be seperated into seperate moves especially in the air considering its a forward sending dash but you end up not holding forward at all it just makes no sense to me, Not only that it would just make jumping and shooting weird since you would have to move forward to Fire a shot or even just fire lemons he would just not feel like a mega man character, and i dont think many people would like it if that was the case if they were to be seperated controls wise i still think Pre-Patch X is still more comfortable to play since special weapons are Side B but i get its for balancing reasons and tbh things are fine how they are) and for Fair i think is fine and fits into his kit really well and even fixes some issues i have with him, X really doesnt specialize with swords so i think the damage is fine and it being weak damage wise is fine, However knockback wise i actually think its broken since due to how weak it is you can just ladder opponents offstage with it due to how little knockback it has, Simple fix is to just give it more knockback and not change anything else although not to the point where it becomes his old Fair.

Seeing as X's moveset is basically done and I've just released a small balance patch, now is about the time I start asking what should be changed so X isn't broken or under powered

Also I feel like I should explain why I've kept side special as frost shield in better detail

Test X is much more mobile than the other versions of X, his unique air mobility makes controlling space with him extremely easy and his speed has been improved from previous versions. On top of that, he has been given more ways to position himself, such as the buster follow ups (dashing or back stepping) and Uair carrying him higher.

Because of X's mobility, zoning has to be nerfed considerably. If a character has several projectiles that are threatening and they're also extremely fast, fighting them is very frustrating to say the least.

In this way, having frost shield as his f-special can be seen as a direct nerf to his zoning. It is very slow and doesn't cover alot of range. I have gone out of my way to test what it would be like if this version of X had his special weapons moved to F special, and having a character this fast with 2 very threatening projectiles at all times is just near impossible to deal with.

Main point being that having anything better than frost shield on Fspecial makes X way too oppressive, and he's already quite good as is at zoning.

None of this is to say I made frost shield a BAD move, it leaves a trap on the floor and it can be used to stall in air. Don't try to use this move as a zoning tool, I find that it's better to shoot one in neutral after knocking away your opponent (shoot it in the direction that's away from your opponent) so that they have to deal with the trap later on by going out of their way to break it, or avoiding the spot where it landed all together.

Anyways I'd like to hear feedback on balance now that his moveset is just about done. Thanks for providing all the feedback you have thus far, and for playing the character.
Fair enough people would just have more to worry about (and honestly i didnt even realise ray splashers use until now after just experimenting with it with Side B so id say it has some use although it takes awhile to figure out) Hes honestly just more fun to play considering all of his moves use some sort of special weapon instead of most of his integral moves being from MVCI and he just overall feels like how X would probably play in a platform fighter rather than just a Fighting game. As for balancing now the only really first impression (and this is me just coming into it i didnt even know he was updated twice) i think comes to mind is Nair is a bit odd the initial charge just feels like it can really be spammed and from what i see and DI doesnt really help you get out of it so you can just spam it for free 30 percent at the beginning of the match and or stock, Not only that the initial blast just seems hard to get as well even if you do it into boomerang cutter or Dtilt that could also be due to how long it is. My only suggestion is maybe to make it a bit faster and be able to use it during a short hop instead of committing to a full hop but idrk how that would pan out. Id have to play him more to really see what he needs, As for the future actually really excited to see how the mechanic/gimmick pans out if thats still in the cards once hes ironed out a bit both balance and functioned wise (do hope its a combination of the two ideas because i really think that would work out the best) and i like the reference to Both The Mega Mission and MMXC armor sets (although it would be cool to see the phoenix armor mixed with the hydra armor similar to what you did with the X8 armor set) with his taunt.

My current thoughts
This is more of a quality of life thing (and I'm surprised I've never suggested this) but it would be cool to see his charge up animation similar to his X games that he keeps after charging his buster so both you know and your enemy knows what charge shot level you have because it can get really confusing especially if you get hit sometimes you have your charge shot and sometimes you don't and that would just help eliminate confusion on both sides (although the sound effect say if you do rip it from X4-X6 id recommend keeping the audio down). How you would go about programming this not sure but i think this would help a lot
Back air at least currently feels really weak currently although ik you haven't added the sweet spot yet so i cant really judge would be cool if the opponent could bounce off the ground so it can combo into charge shot.
Dash attack I like however it just feels pretty weak to use at least currently, Like how its a multi hit it feels natural however the end lag i think just makes the move a weird and just feels stiff to use if that makes sense. I think it being a kill move could work by maybe adding more knockback or even a bit more speed or range to it if the end lag were to be the same.
And as for Neutral air i still stand with and i actually think its a bit difficult sometimes to get the last blast from a full hop sometimes so maybe making its shorter would help or even maybe a bit extra jump height but i doubt you would want to touch that

Uploaded a few changes, mainly to aerial Uspecial (Details in change notes)
A bit curious to hear feedback on a few things:

1. Should Dtilt be changed to travel a set distance (like mollo) instead of varying distance based on how much speed X had before using it?

2. What are X's best and worst moves? Either in terms of efficiency or just which moves you personally like the most

3. On grounded Uspecial, would it be more fun for weapon combo to cancel into the aerial version of uspecial, or should it stay as it is?

4. How does X feel right now in terms of balance compared to the base cast of RoA?

5. If you have any new color suggestions that'd be nice to hear (as well as which alt I should replace). I put Over-1 palette on MMZ X because I ran out of ideas

6. Out of these designs for MMZ X, which do you prefer? If you like certain elements from one design and certain elements from another, be sure to specify that as well

5: I like the colors we have for now (do think maybe the gold armor should have a shine to it like the silver armor) One alt i think would be really cool to see is the X-Holic or SoundHolic whatever it is armor as a potential color personally one of my favorite armor designs and i think it could work as a potential color (even though its a little similar to X-kai)

6: Was always a big fan of the theory that Copy-X was a copy of X to the bear bone even in terms of design So Design 2 has to be my favorite (although ik he has a different design in Zero 2 it always just struck me as odd and just looked like X series X with different proportion and this ugly yellow tone thats prob due to age and in some art it just looks inconsistant in terms of design) i Think the red on the Jacket gives it a lot more to stand out and makes it feel different to the other alts while the shoulderless pad design fits more with the Reploid designs of the Zero series and also makes it look different, a couple things i think i would think make it stand out a bit more is the "ear?" Pieces on the 3rd design and the white accents of the arms and legs of the first design then i think you have a pretty effective and standout Zero series Design for X.

Honestly would be cool to see some scrapped moves return as Tier 3 Runes that could potentially work into his kit some iconic ones that come to mind are... Back Air (Metal Anchor) Fsmash (Kick) Maybe old Dash attack? And dont know if the armor mechanic is planned (although considering the ultimate armor is still lacking in his moveset even with the new taunt i still have my theories) but it would also be cool just to have an infinite armor ruin if that ever does become a thing.

Tier 2 I could imagine not that heavy gameplay but enhancements like Making his old Movement speed and Jump height the same before the rework, Making it so Down Air has less endlag so you can cancel it onto the stage with Dtilt, Faster Buster Charge time increase or even just have it so Charge shot cant get knocked on hit (maybe even his old Crouch to Uptilt Shoryuken move as well? dont know if that would change him heavily in terms of gameplay)

Tier 1 just makes moves faster such as Ftilt and Dtilt HOWEVER one thing i would like to see is ive seen other mod creators put in some sprites that were originally used but just been replaced one thing i would like to see is maybe his old idle sprite return with the new coat of paint that way theres just an option to toggle between the two (im still a sucker for the old pose due to how close it resembles his In game poses in the X series and i think that would just be a cool way to keep the current one which i think is a bit different to his X series poses but still has its own identity)

1. I think dtilt is perfectly fine right now, but i dont mind eitherway as long as it stays useful.

2. ive already given my thoughts about this in dms but i think his neutral air is very much lacking. but apart from that, i think everything else is perfectly fine- im not sure what move is his "best" however, hes kinda just as good as he is by the combination of solid moves he has in combination with his main gimmicks.

3. i think aerial upspecial is more fun,

4. Hard to answer since i havent played him online much- but i think hes a smidge above base cast. but again keep in mind i mostly tried him against bots and they have no idea how to deal with projectiles, or ANYTHING really.

5. No idea to be honest, you got pretty much everything. maybe a omega alt, both for his first and zero form?

6. that looks amazing!! i am a huge HUGE fan of copy x, and thats just about perfect!!- only request id have would be to make his eyes red but i get thatd be a chore to add since youd have to add another part to his color code. but hey, then you could give all the alts accurate eyes and a omega alt with pink/purple eyes would also become possible.

5. Awesome to potentially see the Holic armor although it sucks to see that the shine cant be put on different alts but hey at least the gold armor is a skin in general lol thats at least good enough

6. And for the sprite yeah thats exactly what i had in mind when i described it and i personally really love it, it looks so awesome!

and yay for armor mechanic lol

(will say for the idle sprite i think it looks a little odd that the earpiece on the opposite side doesnt really stick out almost looks like the earpiece on the opposite side is missing) However due to how slight it would peak out im not sure if it would make the line art look a bit weird

and also i just noticed he actually looks forward when he crouches and ill say that the crouch looks a lot more natural now lol
