I solved the problem by downloading the newest version via Dropbox that you can find in another discussion post on this workshop page.

There still hasn't been a solution to this problem, and it would be awesome to get help with it... I'm nearly 900 days in when I decided to check some mods out, and really want to use Diplomacy for that save file. If anybody has discovered a solution, please share, it would really mean a lot. To be clear, I am also stuck with the "553" issue.

UPDATE! I figured it out. So on the main page here on the workshop for Diplomacy, the developer actually addresses the issue. You NEED to check the latest updates for the mod posted by the developer in the discussions tab. In that discussion, he posted a link to a Dropbox file thing. Follow the link.
Past that it gets pretty complicated, but just follow the instructions given by the developer in the description of the actual mod here on the workshop.
The one thing that I will note is that the developer says to "copy the native folder" but I would recommend just making a new folder instead and naming it "Diplomacy".
Also, if you do this then you will have two "Diplomacy" options in the launcher for Mount and Blade, and that was really confusing to me because you don't know which one is the fixed one and which one is the broken one, so I had to unsubscribe to the one on the workshop, which is fine because you still have the one you downloaded from Dropbox.

I'm not super tech-savvy like most of these guys, so I'm kinda speaking plainly here, but you CAN play your old Native save on Diplomacy, it is possible, and it works excellently. If you need this more broken down, please say so. It might take me awhile to see it but I'll do my best. Have a good one mah dudes!

I did this and wrote about it the 26 July 2018 in this thread. I am glad you finally found the same solution!

I kinda tried everything and would love to have it a bit more broken down. don't really know what to do as soon as I'm in the dropbox

Download the contents, and extract them to the Warband install directory/Modules/Native directory OR the workshop commons directory (see the description). Alternatively you copy+paste the Native folder, rename it Diplomacy, and move those dropbox files in there and then go to My Documents/Mount&Blade Warband Savegames/ and copy+rename the folder to Diplomacy again.
