Nimrod and Medic did have the Herbalist trait iirc when I first released the mod, but it was bugged and you could just remove the trait, and get more trait points. You could even repeat it and get wayyy more exp. than usual. So, that's why it's not given out for free.
As for farming, I'm currently working on a new profession that combines cooking and farming together. I'd imagine all of the great cooks ten years later would be good at farming too.
And for the axe, spear, and long blade, the reason for which is simple; I simply forgot to add them in :(
