Mount & Blade: Warband

Gekokujo
Proposed new version: "Shogun Edition"

Edit: This idea *unfortunately* fell through, although I did get support from the original mod author in terms of source code and input for ideas, anyone I went to for coding help left me in the lurch or flat out weren't interested. I tried scoping many forums with no real luck. I had many good and amazing ideas even the original mod author was interested by and greatly intrigued by, even the creators of the Prophecy of Pendor mod (who I spoke to asking for advice) were greatly interested and willing to give me hints and pointers to certain ideas I did originally have to help me. But I am an ideas man and a writer, not a coder and this was the pin in the side. My final word is essentially if someone or a group of people who have coding experience for this game wish to come to me and help me I have the connections and everything to help, as well as ideas. But while noone has come to me and this is basically stagnating. This becoming "officially" dead with Bannerlord "out", I have also replaced PCs between time and therefore no longer own the source code. I would encourage people to talk with the original mod owner/creator as he is happy to share the code to those looking to continue his work. I am more than happy to help with ideas if you need 'em, but I also wish you the best of luck. This is a project which I would personally hate to see die.

Hey guys, I know I posted this earlier but this is me putting it out there again as I really want community feedback to see if people like this idea.

I will also say I got the all clear from Marty, along with source files so I can begin, I do have to admit to be doing this with no knowledge (and the guy who's thinking of helping has no experience in M&B modding, so any coders + 3D modellers would be helpful).

Ok. The "Shogun Edition" is a big update I am planning, with a lot of influence drawn from the popular Total War game Shogun 2. This results in what I hope to be a really good project.

1. Vassals aren't given a title, Daimyos will be given one and the Shogun will be the leader of the Ashikaga clan (Initially). The player can become a shogun through military conquest or their alliances and relationships with other clans. This means the game takes on a whole new level when one becomes Shogun, you will draw ire from rivals and even those who call you friend..
2. The Northern most island will be given it's own small minor clan.
3. More 'Forts' with unique units, items and equipment. There will be 3 which a player can find initially and interact with, whilst hidden ones will exist around the map which must be found via maps, where those maps are found will be a mixture of quests, talking to certain NPCs and defeating certain armies.
4. 'Major' and 'Minor' clans defined, Major clans will have their own unique troop trees which will provide a focus, whilst also providing a weakness (e.g. Focus on Bows, Weakness in Cavalry), Minor clans will have a fairly middle of the road troop tree with no real strengths or weaknesses.
5. Religion is a hot topic! Whether you're an Atheist, Shinto Buddhist, Ikko Ikki Buddhist or a Christian, your religion you choose to follow and spread will bring great benefits and challenges to the player. Your relationships will be elevated to new heights through this.
6. A greater variety of flags.
7. Achievements system, with rewards ranging from renown to unique items.
8. Bandits to the north which will spawn with heroes attached, their troop tree will focus high numbers of low-mid tier units.
9.Villages+Towns have a chance to gain prosperity when you work in them, there are key factors which will effect the chance and the amount of prosperity.
10. Daimyos will commit ritual suicide upon defeat of their clan (When it no longer exists), a new daimyo is granted based on their family tree and all vassals will go into exile. If a rebellion occurs within one of the towns originally belonging to that clan it will cause the daimyo with an army filled with their vassals and units to appear. If they take a town/castle they will bring the clan back.
11. Hattori Hanzo comes as a unqiue companion who's expensive but worth every penny. A strong capable warrior who'll aid you as either a vassal or a companion, a unique skill set, items and even a questline which is based on an event in his history with unique and awesome rewards.

This is the current list of ideas, I do plan to really make it a fun dive! If you have Python scripting or M&B scripting knowledge, or any form of practical help don't feel shy to come and help! Testers are not currently needed but may be in future.

5. Religion, is an interesting one. I lived in Japan in Fukuoka. I was told that there was a war against the Christians because they defaced Buddhist temples in the area. The Samurai found out that they had a fort and wiped it out (including women and children).
Then Christianity went underground, quite literally in underground caves. Was very interesting, especially the Christian artifacts that they kept.
If you want to add Religion, I would seriously look into this. Id also look into Japanese mythology and renowned heroes and legends. Even the Shinto/Buddhist Gods are worth looking in to.

I to know of the historical occurances of Christianity in the era. I'm treating religion as it's treated in Shogun 2, the choice you make will effect you the whole time, from when you start to when you eventually become shogun, your religion will have a heavy say in what companions, other vassals/Daimyos think of you and even how towns run under your rule. I will at least say this, Christianity will be a form of "Hard Mode" if you will, there will only be a few clans on Kyushu which follow it and alot of Japan will dislike you (and Ikko Ikki will despise you), it'll be much more costly and time consuming to try and convert the whole of Japan to the religion, but it's pay off is one which is quite worth it if you can pull it off.

Sounds like a great idea, I'm more of a diplomacy fella, so I enjoy trading with other clans and building relationships with them, marriage, family and all that. I really enjoy the role play aspect of the Gekokujo game. I would love to see more civil diplomacy towards the clans e.g diplomacy, relationships, alliances, enemies, feasts, be able to marry the daughter/sister of a daimyo (being a vessel/lord) in exchange for trading connections and other stuff would be awesome aswell.

Samurai don't usually wear armour around villages and civil places, only in battle, so it would be nice to see some fancy kimonos that were usually wore by the lords/daimyos around their villages/castles. Also, animations, would be really nice to be able to sit down like a proper samurai.

More historical accurate face models, hair, beards, get rid of the western american looks and faces, only japanese stuff would be lovely aswell.

Be able to start as a clan leader from the get go, create your own clan name, choose a variety of custom banners, that would actually contain the logos to appear on your kimonos and armour, the kimonos usually had a logo on the back and on the sleeves, they were really proud of their clan name.

If you want I can go on and on with ideas, I got tons. Also a big fan of the samurai culture.

TBH, I had no word from anyone and certain people didn't return my messages so I dropped the project in lue of other things. I am keeping hold of all this though *just incase*

I will note and go on record saying I have little to no intention of allowing a player to "start with a clan", I never personally liked the feature and I think it ruins a lot of character development/fun.
well it would improve the Mod if you can choose at the begining of Character Creation what you want to Play.

Want you to Play an Merchant or Soldier from the Netherlands, a Priest from Portugal? so you need an Western Look alike Face.

Or Son of Terumune Date, the Famouse Masamune Date?

It would be also cool when the Time ingame is faster so you can literally start as an Teenager and become older.

Like Start as Teenager, Son of Nobuhide Oda, Nobunaga Oda and become older and become the Leader of the Oda Clan. Included with all Difficulties Oda Nobunaga had back in time when he became the Leader of his Clan.

I will re-state and edit the front.

My final word is essentially if someone or a group of people who have coding experience for this game wish to come to me and help me I have the connections and everything to help, as well as ideas. But while noone has come to me and this is basically stagnating I will be keeping hold of the files in the hope someone will come forward. This becoming less likely with Bannerlord's probable release this year.

So what you have is an idea and 'connections'.. if only all mods only required those. Good luck finding people willing to invest time into your ideas, but generally people mod their own visions.. with people sometimes providing/lending some graphic assets.
Askey 18 Feb, 2019 @ 3:21am
I would upload the files on Nexus Mods, explaining the ideas you had and offer them to the modding community to use. I'd state that if anyone wanted further ideas or creative input - that you are more than willing to help.
Twisted Traveller 18 Feb, 2019 @ 12:34pm
@Askey they aren't my files to go distributing. As much as I do believe this mod needs continuing and reinvigoration (as well as the original mod owner, FYI) I wouldn't go ahead and just post it up without his permission and given he hasn't done so it shows he doesn't want it just spread around to everyone. This is why I'm basically going "If people want to work on this mod they should get in contact with me" rather than spreading it around.

And yes Muck, I fully agree. I spent a lot of time speaking to mod authors for advice, pointers and input and generally the response was "I'll give you pointers to any coders you get, but will not code with you", Right now everyone wants to work on their own projects which is perfectly fine and understandable, but ultimately upsetting when it comes to gems like this.

Foxy, as a modder of other games, thank you for saying you wrote above.
Twisted Traveller 18 Feb, 2019 @ 8:50pm
@Skylight - It's no problem. I have a lot of respect for modders and the work they put into the mods and as said above, it's not my project to give out to people, I was entrusted with the files under the condition that it was me (or "my team") who'd be working on it. These files are not mine in the slightest so I have no right to distribute them, even if it was for "the betterment of the mod". If the original author decides to hand them out I would to but seeing as he hasn't I feel no right to do so. As said above many times, If anyone out there who enjoys this mod and has some experience in modding wants to come forward and help me I can promise that I have the files, that I have the original mod author for general support, Q&A and other insights to his script, as well as contacts within POP and other MWB mods who're more than happy to impart advice and knowledge on certain scripts/events/addons to Mount and Blade to improve the project as a whole, I just cannot (nor would I ask) get them to join my project since they do have their own to be handling.

>> If you do add me for this reason **PLEASE** say so on this thread so I'm not like "Lmao random add? Deleted."
Askey 19 Feb, 2019 @ 5:49am
Ugh. I meant whatever files you may have created yourself.
Twisted Traveller 19 Feb, 2019 @ 2:38pm
@Askey - If you hadn't been reading I am not a coder so I didn't add anything. I was awaiting coders to help me out.

Releasing whatever code I "had created" would require me to also post out his base code within and around my code, otherwise it's totally useless to anyone who tries to mod it. It's not as straight forward as say, releasing a recipe for a cake recipe, coding is extremely finicky and not having the base material for the rest of the code to rely on, even one single digit out of place, can entirely ruin it and make the code useless and unreliable. This might sound like me ranting at you but I am not, I do unfortunately have a lot of coding friends and some experience myself, just not when it comes to game modding (and those friends with the experience either have their own projects or were simply not interested in this).
Askey 19 Feb, 2019 @ 4:34pm
Coding is not the only element required for a mod. I assumed that you may have images, or even edited various armours/weapons/banners/etc. When I have created my own personal mods I generally start out with images taken for ideas and whatnot along with quick basic sketches etc.

What I meant was, whatever you have gathered, even a simple mind-map on paint for example - to be placed on the Nexus and sharing whatever you have for others to use down the line.

I have been reading your posts, but I assumed that you had actually done some work...
Twisted Traveller 19 Feb, 2019 @ 4:39pm
@Askey - I had done a roadmap, lots of notes and creative things, over the course of many hours and such. But again, as I am constantly reminding you, ideas and such are nice but without the source code you cannot implement the changes. You can continue acting snarky about it but that's unfortunately the way of this world. I hadn't done banners/graphics because I wanted coders to be working before I devoted true manpower/time to the project (It's always worked in the past when I've undergone gaming projects).
