War Exhaustion and Impossible Peace
I am king of Vlandia and control almost all of the map. As a result, we have wars on several distanced fronts, and nobody in my kingdom wants to make peace (with the diplomatic approach) even though the Aserai are offering us 4290 in payments. While my lords are all fighting the Kuzaits, I am left to deal with the Aserai that declared war on us a long time ago. So far I am kicking their asses. The Aserai are so ♥♥♥♥♥♥ that my army of 400 people, where the majority are wounded after a siege, have completely obliterated their army of over 1000.

But here comes the problem. Our war exhaustion with the Aserai is at 100%. Meanwhile theirs is 95%. I am now stuck at a point where it says that my armies and my people are exhausted from the war, and have given up. As a result I have to "accept defeat" and pay reparations and lose a massive amount of influence.

I feel like this doesn't make much sense and should be addressed. Essentially I am at a lose-lose situation no matter what even though we're winning the war. If all of my lords are perfectly content remaining at war with the Aserai, it doesn't make sense that all of a sudden they collectively decide to give up the war, forcing ME to make peace, forcing US to pay reparations, and declaring defeat. The only way out of this awkward situation would be to enable the complete diplomacy control option. But I don't want to play this way as I don't want my rule to be 100% totalitarian.

There needs to be a way, in these kinds of situations where the enemy actually wants peace, for lords in my kingdom to ask/pressure me that we should make peace due to war exhaustion. This way there are some steps to avoid reaching the 100% war exhaustion penalty.

What are your thoughts?

Edit: Enabling the complete diplomacy control option doesn't seem to work lol. Looks like I'm stuck in this situation until I figure something out

1. Complete diplomacy control does not cancel elections. It should probably be renamed and/or removed.
2. That's the war exhaustion for you. While you were fighting, the population of your empire got more and more drained by the toils of war, until it could no longer support it.
3. War exhaustion is calculated based on objective and relevant factors: casualties, fiefs lost, villages razed. The fact that you had more war exhaustion than your enemy means you've lost this war.

Am I the only one that takes an influence hit, or do the rest of the lords as well? Would make sense if they too suffered some penalties since they share responsibility as well.

It would make sense for some lords in my kingdom to also recognize war exhaustion, and to request I sue for peace when it begins to get too high due to the fact that the population is drained by the toils of war. At least to make it to where, when this happens, the influence cost of overriding everyone's vote costs less influence than losing from war exhaustion. It would then be up to whether or not I like the tribute terms, and whether or not I want to lose that amount of influence.

I think early to mid game what I am complaining about isn't really an issue as lords are more likely to want peace and accept tribute payments. But late game when your kingdom becomes big and powerful, lords just stop wanting to make peace with anyone. In my most recent session I was at war with almost everyone, leading to us being heavily raided and facing around 5 sieges at once. There was only 49% support for making peace with a single kingdom, which cost me a bunch of my little remaining influence. Our war exhaustion is high with everyone else now, so I fear I will have tons of negative influence soon.

I disagree. The majority of reputational / influence strikes or gains always go to the leading figure in the grand scheme of things.

So far Diplomacy tried it's best to stay away from the vanilla logic that determines peace or war tendencies. But your points are valid here. I'll think what we can do.
