Of course, this is not random per se, but something in the code gives priority to another item over the manual selection in general. It would be useful if you want to disassemble the "roaster" that it does not disassemble the "frying pan", without having to make everything favorites.
I've actually had it happen to me that it broke my equipped tool into "metal scraps" with the help of another tool in the inventory although I have explicitly selected another item to process manually. Would be cool if you could look over there at times.
I don't know if I described the problem correctly. I can work around, cause I know it, but for the finetuning of the mod it would contribute a lot that items equipped in the hand or in the belt are not disassembled generally, neither in the manual nor in the "all" function. Plus and much more important, that manually selected items to disassembled get chosen and not another one from the "same recipe", which is (maybe) higher in the alphabet or whatever the selection is driven by.
I get by either way, but I could see this bothering others.

Thanks again for the mod :) - I have really a good time with it and a lot of fun crafting metal parts for my car tuning stuff by disassembling junk from neighboring houses. Love it!!

I see that you can't change the order of "dismantle all" and that this is vanilla behavior to grab "random" things - and I think this is fine.
But for example if you select the "roaster" by right clicking and "dismantle this specific item" that also the "roaster" and not another item like the "frying pan" is dismantled? Other mods like "rip underwear" for example also rip this specific manually right-clicked underwear and not another one from the same recipe.
I don't know what effort this would be and what code other people use / I'm just a script kiddy at most - not a programmer and haven't dealt with Zomboid mods writing yet so - either way - I'm having fun with your mod. I would rate this as a finetuning bug - maybe to mention in the mod description in some way as long as no solution is found.
For example I put all my tools in the toolbox when I "dismantle" the collected stuff. And only use the tools I need and pay attention to the recipes, then there are no problems - as a workaround so to speak.

tongs if you fav them they become hidden from recipe lists as a needed tool showing you dont have said tool
i think it was another item same issue but for the life of me im sorry i forgot what it was...
O WAIT i know now i think, it was the welding mask
i cant find the issue with the welding mask either besides for one single recipe! & i use another mod for that one lolz
make engine parts is the recipe btw
i have them fav so when i go out & about i can easy transfer all to trunk of van without losing my tools/key items somes BUT with that said
only recipe i could find with that bug was spare engine parts and the welding mask so no issue at all for me anymore <3
idk if my game was just bugging out maybe or you fixed them that last update but ya that welding mask one was only one i still found and its not that big a issue for me!
you did do some MAJOR tweaks to recipes but idk if u touched on box of nails & that was one of them giving me issues but not anymore.
that being said i have yet to fire up the game as of this post post so last update i did try was the "Apr 14 @ 8:23am"
just something random if you happen scroll past the recipe and remember sometime
dont vanilla have recipe like ripping clothing into cloth for example!!! when u loot a body and click a shirt to be ripped into cloth it goes into main inv and the deed is done without risk of other clothing being lost...
what in the world was even going down in your recipe in the first place to have random stuff get pulled instead of target?
that being said i know vanilla is not perfect i have had some recipe use parts i didnt want like i right clicked on sturdy sticks and it used my stupid planks instead.... !@#$
