Cambalache 2
Kyle's Review of "Cambalache 2: Buenos Aires" - 5/5
A "sidegrade" to the original. 5/5 stars.

Cambalache 2 is a very unexpected remake — the original was already great, and it's not even 2 years old. This remake is very similar overall and what worked before still works now, but there are small additions everywhere that enhance the charm of the original. I especially love the World Cup trophy weapon.

The biggest change is length. CBA1 was 4 maps long, and CBA2 has expanded to 6 maps by splitting a chapter into 3. Previously, the train station map had a long first half and a second half that randomly transported you to one of two different scenarios. CBA2 sensibly made the first half its own map, and the two second halves have been expanded into unique maps with no randomness. Levels flow better now, and you don't have to worry about missing content.

However, CBA2 is not an upgrade overall. Navigation is harder, some events feel less unique and the finale was changed from a tough gauntlet to a confusing holdout. Still recommended, though!

UPDATE: As of the 2024 patches, Map 6 has a completely new finale that's rebuilt from the ground up. It used to be the CBA1 finale turned into a holdout instead of a gauntlet, but it's now a unique, pseudo-scavenge finale that turns into a running gauntlet halfway through. It's still confusing and I prefer the simplicity of CBA1's finale, but it's an improvement from my original review and I'm still very comfortable with my 5/5 score.
