And yes ... have a look at Bologna, too! There is no university. We already discussed that internally some days ago. I'm not sure when it comes to the industries (not wanting to disturb the economy part too much), but we may add the universities of Naples and Bologna.
We also will add some events for Pompeii in the future and when we introduce Geology, there will be Vulcanology events for Two Sicilies (Vesuvius Observatory!)
Thanks for the feedback! I didn't notice the lack of Bologna University, happy to hear that it'll be added soon, and I'm sure many other Italian minors in future will get flavour.
Looking forward for these new events and additions in the future :)
Maybe Marco can say something about the other suggestions, as he implemented both Archaeology and Anthropology.
Excavations are more powerful than expeditions in the long run, as you normally get two artifacts per year. So, if you have two excavations in one archaeological area (let's say upper egypt and lower egypt), you'll get 20 artifacts guaranteed in ten years, whereas even with two very lucky expeditions in the same time you won't get as much.
It's not that silly that an expedition takes so long to prepare another one. Preparing an expedition, preparing assistants, preparing instruments etc. especially as a national endeavour takes time. It's not like that the five years represent the distance, it represents the exhaution of the academical cycles to put something like that together again. Historically, even the excavation of Pompeji at a small distance to Naples was a costly thing which needed some capacities until the excavations were more professionalized unter Fiorelli (which were real excavations).
There is a motive why countries didn't do archaeological expeditions and excavations in the 19th century all the time; the main motive is not the money, but because the academical personal was always sparse, and after the return of an archaeological expedition the crew had to catalogue everything and do the "real science", which may take years. Lepsius himself visited Egypt only one year, but the last scientifical treatise he wrote on the expedition of 1842 was in the 1850s. He was still "busy" dealing with the expedition of 1842 in all these years and didn't return until the 1860s. In this regard, five years is a rather gameplay friendly appropach; by the way, a smaller expedition will take less time to organize a new one.
Due to VFM editing regions in Poland and the addition of the Saxon Palace in Morgenrote
I fixed the issue by editing the Saxon Palace state_region in the Morgenrote common > buildings > gaudi_buildings file to be STATE_WARSAW instead of STATE_MAZOVIA
Then I edited the VFM STATE_WARSAW in the 02_east_europe file under map_data to include bg_monuments = 1
Doing this has finished the crashing issue I had but has made it so that the Saxon Palace has to be rebuilt, I believe this could be fixed (havent tried it) by adding the line
create_building={
building="building_gaudi_saxon
level=1
In VFMs 02_east_europe file under common > history > buildings
I fixed it by changing STATE_RUHR to STATE_NORTH_RHINE
Academy of Science:
More animals for zoo:
-(Hammerhead) Shark
-Dolphin
-Any eagle, hawk or Falcon species to Europe
-Peafowl (Asia)
-Blue-and-yellow macaw (South America)*
-Scarlet macaw (South America)*
-Boa constrictor (South America)
-Egyptian cobra (Africa)
*Maybe some funny Team Fortress 2 and/or Red vs Blue reference for them
Archeology and exploration
-China with Terracotta Army as potential major find
-Caribbean and South & Central America: Colonial era and pirate themed archeology with (buried) pirate treasures both from real world pirates (Blackbeard, Francis Drake, Henry Morgan, Bartholomew Roberts, William Kidd, etc.) and maybe fictional ones as well (Captain Flint's treasure from Treasure island, One Piece from One Piece, Treasure of Cortés & Dead Man's Chest from PoTC, etc.) as potential major find.
-Lost City of Z to Brazil
-Fountain of Youth?
Sports and Tournaments:
Diving and Deep sea Exploring with diving suits, diving bells and later with submarines. It could work similar to Balloonist (who can dive deepest, who can stay underwater longest and who can travel longest distance underwater).
Architecture, Monuments, canals and railroads:
Monuments
-Winter Palace (Saint Petersburg)
-Königsberg Castle (Königsberg/Kaliningrad)
-Hungarian Parliament Building (Budabest)
-Empire State Building (New York)
-Parliament Hill (Ottawa)
City Renovation/Expansion (similar to Vienna Ring Road). They could be 2-3 phases long, with each has tons of famous buildings from certain decades (phase 1: 1836-1870, phase 2: 1870-1910, phase 3: 1910-1936)

Canals:
-Kiel Canal

-White Sea–Baltic Canal

In fact, there are many ideas we are working on, especially the architecture feature which will work a bit like a mixture of the known splendid architecture content and Vienna Ringroad. This would be possible for all capitals, and it will be hopefully the next big feature after we have consolidated Morgenröte with 1.7/2.2.0.
Deap Sea exploration is also something we are thinking about, especially because experiments with research balloons gave insights for deep sea submarines. This may take some time, however.
Something for the "Mythical past of Pre-Columbian America" is in the works.
Actually, you can find the Terracotta Army, but China needs to be one of the leading archaeologicla nations. :)
There should be an option to loot the Art Gallery, the Archeological Museum (and the Zoo) of an enemy, for a big amount of infamy.
Stoling arts and artifacts from one country to another was, and is still unfortunately, quite common when an advancing army captured a city.
For example, if you look at both the Congress of Vienna and the WWI peace treaties, there are dedicated parts concerning stolen arts by the Napoleonic armies or arts that was withdrawn from Italy by the Habsburg before and during the Risorgiomento. And if you go foward to WWII there's the unkown fate of the Amber Room.
While for the zoos, the only example I have in mind is the story of an alligator that was found by the Soviet Army in the rubbles of the Berlin Zoo and finished his life in Moscow.
This is an interesting idea which I might add
