No Mercy: Rehab
Kyle's Review of "No Mercy: Rehab" - 3/5
Not enough "new." 3/5 stars.

No Mercy: Rehab is the latest project expanding and redesigning the levels of an official campaign, similar to Dark Carnival: Remix and Hard Rain: Downpour. It has its bright spots, but sadly I think NMR is my least favorite of the three.

It's not bad at all, but none of the layout changes felt like improvements on the original to me, and there aren't as many changes as I'd like. Each level is longer, taking you to previously inaccessible rooms or even new areas made from scratch. Crescendo events in Maps 2 and 3 are entirely new. However, the changes gave me no strong feelings, and many felt arbitrary or confusing.

My biggest issue is how easy it is to get lost. No Mercy is already a bit of a maze, but at least the way forward is always lit up by strong light sources. In NMR, many of these lights are now brightening up dead ends, with the new path forward hidden in darkness.

NMR was explicitly made for better Versus play, so maybe stick to that over Co-op.

Thanks for the feedback, which areas did you get lost in specifically?

Since you asked for feedback, I remember the apartments in Map 1 and the sewer maze in Map 3 being particularly rough. Granted, the sewer is supposed to be confusing so maybe that's okay. It's my least favorite section in the original lol

In general I think the easiest way to improve navigation is just shining lights on the path forward, turning off lights on side paths or dead ends, and maybe using graffiti arrows in areas with multiple paths. Sorry I can't give more specific suggestions, it's been a minute since my playthrough.

i'll have to agree with rustiest, i didn't suffer getting lost. there are other custom maps i've had worse problems when it comes to getting lost than this one
