No Mercy: Rehab. Quality: 9/10, Difficulty: 7/10, Length: Medium. Played On Expert.
No Mercy: Rehab is simply a rework and direct sidegrade to the original No Mercy, in my opinion. I don’t think that it’s necessarily better or worse than the original with its current changes, which is totally fine.

As a result of this, my score for No Mercy: Rehab is exactly the same as what I would rate the regular, vanilla version of No Mercy on Left 4 Dead 2.

I did personally enjoy exploring all of the newly-added/reworked nooks and crannies on my first playthrough, however, which added some fleeting novelty to the original No Mercy's design and Chapter layouts.

The only real major changes on No Mercy: Rehab were the Crescendo events on Chapters 2 and 3 being completely remade, and the Finale area’s layout being reworked. The rest of the campaign felt close enough to the original that it was familiar and easy to quickly navigate through.

Likewise, I felt that the relative difficulty and generosity of supplies provided by the map was similar to or the same as the original.

No Mercy: Rehab’s Finale is a Defend-Tank-Defend-Tank on the rooftop of No Mercy Hospital, just like on vanilla No Mercy.

However, a lot of the usual holdout spots and cheese spots in the Finale area have notably been modified or removed, which changes things up enough to make this Finale interesting and unique.

I also believe that the map designer increased the Max Alive Special Infected from 3 to 4 during the Finale, which ups the ante and makes it a little more intense than the original.

Ultimately, No Mercy: Rehab is a well-made rework and sidegrade to the original No Mercy, but it also doesn’t significantly elevate the gameplay in any notable way. Optimally, both the original and this version of the campaign should be played from time to time, just to shake things up a little.

For some other custom flavour variants of No Mercy, you should also check out ‘Fairfield Terror’ (a faithful recreation of No Mercy from the Left 4 Dead 1 Beta, which I previously rated 8.5/10 for Quality), and 'Reverse No Mercy' (exactly what it sounds like, but with some extra surprise twists, which I previously rated 8/10 for Quality).
