I noticed you commented on the main thingy that you dont know if you have the heart to get rid of your saint pup, and my suggestion is get Visible ID and Dev Console, if you don't have it.
I use it to grab the IDs of pups I get and save them so I can keep them forever. Started doing that after I tragically lost my son after continuing my Spearmaster save. I didn't have the ID mod.
(I lost my daughter continuing Rivulet, but I did save her ID so I was able to spawn her back in.)
I have a save for all my Expedition + co-op pups so that they aren't lost forever.
All in all, I simply haven't named the pup, and if I need to have it meet aunt moon and uncle pebbles earlier than expected, I can and simply give Survivor the pup later.
Oh and I also was using the Rambo mod at the start of the campaign only to remove it after three cycles so I didn't use it much at all.
I then totally forgot I had the Rambo mod at one point... I laughed so much when I saw the flash back scene only to see one of the photos showing Saint as Rambo xD
ive had it for two cycles now and so far there havent been any issues! no crashing or lagging or anything, which is surprising considering how often my game crashes or lags without pup interference (<- junky old computer)
also, about the pup in rubicon: allegedly, according to the dev commentary, its supposed to have a 100% spawn rate for pups because "all slugpups go to hell". however i imagine that was hyperbole because i didnt find any there in my last save
update: my son froze to death but i was too busy being impressed at the application of the cold mechanics on pups. he became white and then fell in some worm grass
