As far as I understand, once your opponent has 8 'stacks', seen as flashing orange circles around them, certain attacks such as Shine will detonate those stacks. Building your OWN stacks (which I believe is done through landing certain attacks, maybe taking damage, and using Heavenly Heat) will increase the power of this detonation. Will probably need to test more for specifics.
