Your Only Move Is HUSTLE

The Fox
YOMI Mod Perfection: The Fox (and a very basic strategy guide)
This character is the definition of underrated, every single mechanic is just so perfectly done that in all honesty this surpasses AAA fighting game design, without a doubt IS the best mod on the YOMI workshop. The ONLY issue with Fox is that they are at a massive disadvantage vs all-rounders like Cowboy, since all "viable" openers are 50/50 at best and you are not given that much breathing space to set up. But that aside, after playing fox for about 16 or so~ hours online and about 4-ish~ offline, I think that a lot of people look past them since you really need to invest like 2-4 hours of labbing to understand them. But that's kinda something you can't avoid with a complex high skill ceiling character like this.

Speaking of complexity, in case someone who has not played Fox yet scrolls down here and want an idea on how they are played, here are the two play styles I have developed (although this is every simplified):

Sun Shower Shrine:

This one can't really be explained without going into like essay level word count, so I’ll keep it brief. The main goal is to get a Triangle of Slips (a Shrine) set up, then you have a few paths you can take. If your playing vs a close ranged/grounded character (such as Susanoo or Ninja (and maybe Robot but I have not gotten a match vs one…) you may want to use either Three or Four Lights to restrict how they can engage you, allowing you to predict their next move AND get them into a position where you can utilize the Shrine’s combo potential.

If you are playing vs a Zoner or anyone who is far away, try to get to a point where you can start up Flower Viewing and they are either forced to A: do nothing and hope for the best/move out of range (which is kinda hard to gauge, but the range for Flower Viewing is around 3/4 or 2/3 screen(?)) or B: go on the offensive in order to stop you before you can finish casting.

Sun Shower Shrine is the most consistent playstyle, but it is hard to learn and can drag on if you are not used to using it. In addition, it’s kinda weak vs characters that LOVE being far away, even with Flower Viewing being used well.

Oh, and one last note before moving on, in some situations where you have your opponent stun falling towards you and you have a spear Slip laying around, use Moon Viewing. While you will most likely miss your opponent, this will catapult you into the opposite direction your opponent is going to land, giving you more time to think and set up. Although this is VERY situational, it has saved my tail a LOT and allowed me a good bit of time and room to set up a new Shrine.

YOMI BOAR

This one is simple… you boar. This one focuses on using your Slips offensively, setting up one or two at a time to gain more angles on your opponent. Your Slip placement should be really close to you/your opponent, this not only sets up the Slip faster but also means that Moon Viewing becomes sort of like a teleport move like Impale, although with a lot more set up and risk needed before reaping the rewards. Now where does the boar come in? You see, during the entire match you should be trying to get your opponent closer and closer to the wall, this can be done several ways, but my favorite is by just raw dogging boar, literally no one expects it. Boar also gives you some time to set up some one or two combo Slips or (even a whole Shrine if you think its needed). While you won’t be putting as much pressure on them by focusing on setting up these Mini-Shrines, this strategy is still about the long game. You are slowly forcing your opponent to the wall, pushing them back then keeping that position by limiting their safe options. Once you get them to the wall it’s up to you to find the most effective combo… since I have not found one yet (look Labbing takes time)! It’s an odd playstyle and the hardest one I could theorize for Fox but it’s fun and no one expects it until it’s too late.

Overall, after giving around 20 hours of my life (and soon more) to this creature I have one last thing to say: Fox good :cf_Taokaka:
