Lockdown: Chapter Two

Lockdown: Chapter Two. Quality: 9/10, Difficulty: 8/10, Length: Long. Played On Expert.
Lockdown: Chapter 2 is the sequel to the excellent 'Lockdown DLC’ Custom Map, which I previously rated 10/10 for Quality.

It diverges significantly from its predecessor’s design, opting for less brightly-lit urban/underground areas, in favour of darker natural/forested areas, as well as some interesting militaristic interiors to break up the monotony.

This design choice made Lockdown: Chapter Two feel Blood Harvest-esque (which some people dislike), though I fortunately enjoy Blood Harvest, so no complaints here.

The overall design quality of this map is directly comparable to the original Lockdown 1, which is to say, excellent.

The difficulty is high, but not frustrating, the length is Long, there are lots of unique areas, some frills and surprises, there are some minor cameos from some of the original four Survivors, and the map is exceptionally well polished.

As a big fan of the very unique and intriguing miniboss/boss events featured in the original Lockdown 1 (IMO its biggest stand-out feature), their almost total absence on Lockdown 2 was a significant and disappointing let-down for me and my friends.

There was, however, one significant miniboss event at the gas station on Chapter 2, featuring a Crescendo immediately followed by a scripted Tank, which was fun and surprising.

Lockdown 2 also interestingly has no Gauntlet horde events, unlike the original.

Another interesting difference between Lockdown 2 and the original is that this one actually features Witches, including at least one scripted Witch, which is placed in a devious location within a mineshaft staircase next to a hole in the wall (this one notably went off by surprise and nearly killed me, when we got horde-attacked from behind whilst coming up with a plan for the Witch).

Like the original, Lockdown 2’s above-average difficult is mostly balanced by it being generous with supplies of all types, especially before and during major events (notably including guaranteed Laser Sights in each of the last three Chapters).

The Finale of Lockdown 2 was also a bit of a let-down, compared to Lockdown 1’s fast and furious Hard Gauntlet-style running Finale, with LD2’s being a pretty basic and easy Defend-Tank-Defend-Tank-Run To The Truck. Though it regains some points for being set within the grounds of a unique cliff-side mansion locale.

We found that the no-brainer Finale holdout spot on the second level of the roof, right beside the Finale-summoning radio antenna switch, was very safe and effective. Arguably a little too safe for a Finale, as everything kept predictably coming up the front-left side, effectively turning this Finale into a shooting gallery, as things attempted to climb up the building (other than the occasional glitchy Jockey instajump + grab straight from the nearest Infected Ladder). Just be sure to go downstairs to grab ammo during the lull after the first Tank, and don’t spend too much time down there.

One issue that we encountered with Lockdown: Chapter 2 was that the Finale Tanks have some pathing issues from the pool area to the second floor balcony (one got stuck below, endlessly moving in circles directly underneath us, when we crouched on the edge of the roof to shoot it).
