Last Summer V5
Last Summer - Review by Endless
★★★ 3/5: A little messy but still fun to play in the alleys of Spain

I'm a sucker for campaigns that are set in real places, and this one tries to recreate a little shore-town in Spain, the location where the author lives. It manages to create a very palpable and realistic vibe to it. The different locales and the architecture are very photorealistic and employ use of some custom textures here and there, mostly windows and wallpapers. Last Summer is, at 3 maps long, quite short when it comes to levels, but each one is actually larger than the average, and the last map in particular feels like it goes on and on, for more than it should.

My main problem with the mapset is the way the navigation is set. It is very poor and confusing, and there's going to be plenty of times that you will get lost. Dark areas with very tight spots and poorly signaled paths, plus very repetitive scenery and prop usage that makes it feel quite maze-like at times. This is mostly around the first two maps, as the very last map opens up to reveal a very massive and sprawling hotel complex. It does loook pretty great, but the performance tanks a bit during certain parts, and the ending can be quite demanding if you don't have a good enough PC.

The gameplay feels more challenging the normal. Plenty of enemies and a lot of panic events that you must look out for. It was an interesting surprise and the very open nature of the levels means that there's tons of hordes waiting for you. Not bad. While some of tank spawns could've been improved, I find it to be very enjoyable.

The last map does suffer a bit from being too large. It takes a lot of time to reach to the final rescue point, and you get quite tired before it. Pity you if you die because then you'll have to do it all over again, so there's that.

Could have been much better, but it is still acceptable. If you enjoy playing maps based around real places, then this one should be up your pocket.
