Shortness Of Breath V3

Question: Should this be in the game?
It's one of those items where I think that it looks amazing and I always wanted to dress up as a HECU soldier from Half Life, and even without the refrence it looks cool as hell! But I'm not sure if it fits the tf2 style too well. It sure is better then that one gas mask that sniper has, but even then, I could see why it could and could not fit into tf2. But from personal bias, this has to be one of my favorite items in tf2, and I want this to be in the game so badly!

Edit: The finally opinion: Y E S !

what a silly question, yeah it should. It's not unbelievable that a soldier would have a gasmask, lthough a more ww2-styled one would probably fit better, it's cool to have more half-life items in tf2.

legit what about this doesnt fit tf2s style
The HECU gas mask is based off a gas mask that was made in 1959. It fits the time period. The only possible issue, art style wise, would be the colour scheme. Even then, that can be changed with paint and alternate styles.

I though it looks a bit too modern, as Half Life has a 90's sci fi style, but a comment pointed out that the gas masks used by the HECU was actually made in 1959, and tf2 is set in the 70's if I remember correctly. So that alone seem to justifie it. And not gonna lie, I really want this to be in the gameX)

We need more Half Life refrences anyways as this is a Valve game.

It acctually does fit.
At first I thought it was an m40 gas mask but luckily I was wrong. It is the m17 gas mask which was created in 1959 and was in service in the 70s so everything fits well.
Also the gas mask looks dope as hell and I feel like MY ASS IS HEAVY.

I think the argument about this game having content that does or doesn't fit the game's timeframe kinda gets a bit silly when you consider the fact that, in the TF2 timeline, we apparently have teleporter technology, access to a new metal that has life-extending qualities, robots that run on money as a fuelsource & the fact that Australia has been a technologically-advanced superutopia since the 1800s. TF2 is anything but an accurate retelling of cold-war America and never really has been and kinda does its own thing with the time period to be as whacky as it can.

Obviously it's unfitting to add content that's too modern-day or contemporary for TF2, but I think there's creative liberties to be made with some items, as long as they're stylised well enough to fit in the TF2 universe. This gasmask, which is one people've pointed out is a style of gasmask that's been around since the late 1950s, is totally fine.

Yeah, you're right.

Yes, good reference to opposing force and looks good, colors are a bit off as green is a weird middle ground with the blue/red but nonetheless
