What I found to be the case that the mod works as if you have actual backpacks instead of an instantly accessible inventory. Try placing the item you wanna use in your hands or onto your belt and try to install it again, that should work.

It takes a bit of getting used to but imo it makes sense since the mod already slows down gameplay.
