RMS Titanic
Facts & Discussion of Titanic
Just a discussion for anyone who happens to come across this and is into Titanic like me :).

Here are some of my favourite facts about the Titanic:
1: The dome would not be illuminated at night, this was a misconception, only the electrolier at the centre would be illuminated, in the day the dome in the grand staircase was illuminated by sunlight.

2: Her sister ship; Olympic's "Honour and Glory Crowning Time Clock" survives to this day, however is painted white and lacks the clock in the centre. Many fixtures of the Olympic, including many of her GSC railings and a large amount of her First Class Lounge fixtures can be found at the White Swan Hotel in Alnwick.

3: A recent discovery has found that the engineers workshop was exposed to the engine room, a photo of Britannic shows this, before it was thought that this was just a missing plate, however VDR modelling the Titanic has found it being exposed to be the case.

4: Third class had something first and second did not, automatic flushing toilets, however this was not for the purposes of luxury, but due to people in these classes maybe not coming across toilets before, thus automatic flushing toilets were using to prevent the toilets being left unflushed.

5: Titanic, while at the time was the largest ship in the world, this would only be the case for a few months, before the German liner, SS Imperator took that place.

6: A theory exists in which Titanic did NOT have her clock installed during her maiden voyage and instead there was a mirror, however this is almost certainly false, as even when being docked in Southamptom for a few days, there was still plenty of time to install things, and the clock was almost certainly installed.

7: The barbershoppe by the C Deck landing at the Aft Grand staircase doubled as the gift shop, often being filled with White Star Line merchandise.

How about this; originally Olympic had brass at the tips of the grand staircase steps, but this was considered dangerous, so in April 1912 these were replaced with rubber, Titanic had them from the get go!
