Differences in Wood Types?
Is there a difference to the four wood types found on the map? (Birch, Maple, Pine, Poplar?) Or does it perhaps work like how the clothing does, with how storage is the same on all clothing items to allow more fashion choices?

No, all the walls and other placeable items made from wood have the same amount of health. The only two differences are: different tree types drop a different special item, like maple has a chance to drop maple syrup, and either birch or poplar(can't remember, but probably birch) can drop eggs. Also, poplar wood produces twice as much charcoal when converting the logs into charcoal in a campfire. That's about it. Ofc cosmetically they are different colour.
