You could then trigger this whenever the creature gets stuck in shelter door, or in karma gate. Or when a guardian doesn't like your social credit score, or when you annoy Pebbles too much. It would also be perfect for an encounter with any of the Reds, and the leviathan.
Imagine red centipede catching you, and when the two ends connect, you straight up explode in red mist.
Whole lot of uses for violent gory explosion, accompanied by some juicy sounds!
You might be able to repurpose the sporepuff effect, with a red color, deleteing the creature and only spawning maybe goreable parts (e.g. lizard arms & head)?
Rotten: When a lizard is consumed by any long legs or wall corruption, they have the chance to respawn with long legs limbs growing out of them and cysts on their bodies similar to hunter long legs, perhaps even being but a limp lizard corpse hanging from a long legs variant. If killed again and defying death again or given food (only a chance to change), they will respawn as "molded", having no cysts but still able to sprout long legs limbs and no longer targeted by wall corruption or other long legs (excluding terror long legs). One of the only lethal-exclusive transformations.
Leeched: When a lizard is killed via drowning by leeches or killed by jungle leeches, they have the chance to respawn as a leech mother, which is completely blinded and missing it's limbs but capable of crawling around like a leech and swimming with the ability to breath underwater. Similar to spider mothers they spit leeches but are also hostile to leeches of all types which avoid them. The type of leech that killed them decides what type of leech they foster, with their colored parts mimicking said leech type's color. If killed in this state and cheating death again or given a cycle to recover, they will become leeched lizards, with no legs but the ability to crawl and swim freely, feeding exclusively on leeches which now avoid them entirely. If they are a jungle leech variant, they also regain lost health by biting other creatures or from eating. If they are blue or red leech mother variants they need to breathe water or they will suffocate on land, and actively seek out water. One of the only lethal-exclusive transformations.
Drowned: When a lizard is killed exclusively by drowning and nothing else, have a 75% chance for them to turn into a drowned when cheating death. Drowned lizards look duller and have yellow glowing eyes along with the ability to swim and breathe underwater, as well as spit globs of water.
Artificed: When a lizard is killed exclusively by being blown up via scavenger bombs or by explosive spears or fire spears they will have a 30% when cheating death to spawn artificed. Causes their color to change to a reddish-orange hue with white eyes and gives them the ability to leap like leapzards, immunity to explosive damage and deafening, and removes their fear of cherrybombs and the such. (Singularity bombs and firebug eggs still kill.)
Grappler: The only non-lethal exclusive transformation. Whenever a lizard eats a grapple grub, there is a 3% chance per each grub eaten that cycle for them to become a grappler lizard. This basically means they get a zoop lizard tongue that is colored pale peach/pink like a normal grapple grub's tongue, perhaps with even more strength and range than a normal zoop. Unsure what the decals would be.
Non-lethal ways to transform lizards:
Electric: Ways to get this transformation next cycle non-lethally are to: Feed a lizard baby centipedes (1%), centipedes (3-15% depending on size), centiwings (10%) aquapedes (20%). Hit them non-lethally with jellyfish (1% per hit) or electric spears (5%) for a percent increase that next cycle they will transform into a electric lizard. Death by tesla-coil or big jellyfish should also have a chance to cause this if they die to one. (That is if it isn't already a feature) Each feeding/shocking increases the chance for transformation next cycle but resets once the next cycle starts..
Spider: Ways to get this transformation next cycle non-lethally are to: Feed a lizard wolf spiders (3%), spitter spiders (8%), or mother spiders (14%), or let them get hit by dart maggots or bit by spiders (1%). Each feeding/hit increases the chance for transformation next cycle but resets once the next cycle starts.
Melted: Ways to get this transformation next cycle non-lethally are to: Have a lizard be exposed to but not die to acid/void fluid/lava (1% per [insert frames] exposed alive. Remove all points gained from this if they die), or have them survive a blast from a firebug egg (25% per hit.) Each dip frame/hit increases the chance for transformation next cycle but resets once the next cycle starts. Also fun fact: The reason firebug eggs would be able to do this is because they are full of void fluid according to Moon.
Drowned: Ways to get this transformation next cycle non-lethally are to: Have a lizard drown but not die (1% per [insert frames] drowning. Remove all points gained from this if they die). Each frame drowning increases the chance for transformation next cycle but resets once the next cycle starts.
Artificed: Ways to get this transformation next cycle non-lethally are to: Have a lizard be hit by and survive cherrybomb blasts (1% per hit), explosive spear blasts (5% per hit), scavenger bomb blasts (10% per hit), or firespear hits (10% per hit). Each hit increases the chance for transformation next cycle but resets once the next cycle starts.
Ways to heal dismemberment:
Legs or Tail: To regrow limbs, a lizard must eat something in the cycle for a chance to grow back their limb next cycle. Each time they eat in the cycle they get a 10% chance to grow back a lost leg when they wake up next cycle, maxing out at 90% or 100%. Chance to heal carries across cycles and then resets when a new limb is regrown.
Eyes: To cure blindness or eye injuries, a lizard must be fed hazers or lanternmice exclusively, with the same 10% mechanic as regrowing limbs next cycle, but instead of 10% each feeding, it's 20% to restore one eye next cycle. Chance to heal carries across cycles and then resets when a eye is healed/regrown. Eyes will heal naturally next cycle if merely bruised.
Head: To cure being beheaded if somehow still alive, they need to eat centipedes exclusively with the same percent chance to heal next cycle per feeding with a 5% chance increase per feeding, although they will be blinded in both eyes upon regrowing their head and will need further food to heal their eyes. Chance to heal carries across cycles and then resets when a head is regrown.
Hearing: If the deafening effect is added, a lizard will need to eat lantern mice, slugpups or slugcats (lol), eggbugs, or scavengers to regain their hearing next cycle with a 5% chance increase per feeding. Lizards lose their ability to hear if they are caught in or near explosions or cherrybomb blasts and survive. Deaf lizards will not investigate noises and the such and have damage to their crests as a sign, seemingly having them charred or dull to show they are damaged. Chance to heal carries across cycles and then resets when their hearing is reobtained.
Tongue: If not possible already, they need to eat grapple grubs, zoop, eel, or blue lizards to regrow their tongue next cycle with a 5% chance increase per feeding. Chance to heal carries across cycles and then resets when their tongue is reobtained.
Jump: If not possible already, they need to eat hazers or squidcada to reobtain their jump ability next cycle with a 25% chance increase per feeding. Chance to heal carries across cycles and then resets when their leap is reobtained.
New means of dismemberment: Taking hits from explosions while still alive and not above a certain threshold (not as explosive as a singularity, firebug egg, or normal bomb while dead) can dismember or even behead lizards. If hit with a bomb while dead or something even stronger while alive or dead, they'll turn into a mist and only spawn gibs like a previous suggestion said. King vulture tusks, miros bird/vulture bites, and noodlefly stabs have a x2 chance to dismember or even behead depending on what part of the body they hit. Being lethally electrified alive or dead also has the chance to cause parts of the body to pop off violently due to the energy racing through their body or even cause them to explode into a mist similar to bombs if severe enough. Jetfish can also bruise eyes. Severing the tail or tongue of a lizard by hitting those would also be really cool, with both being edible for food points similar to a noodlefly baby.
i still don't know why this isn't already a thing
If anyone else wants my code to see how it works, to then make their own mod I will be happy to put the code on GitHub
