Rain World

Rain World

Stormy Coast
In regards to newest DLC compatibility (obvious spoilers don't get upset if you click)
I'm writing this post just out of respect for those still playing the DLC, but since this region is now part of the Watcher DLC, what will this mod do? I'm worried that once I beat the Watcher campaign, it won't add the new maps we explored in the Watcher to all the other campaigns like Downpour added new maps like drainage systems and garbage wastes. What will be the difference between the modded stormy coast and the one in the watcher DLC or will this mod be primarily for those who play without the DLC or have the DLC deactivated?

I would say that the region from this mod and the regions (plural) from The Watcher are pretty different from each other. New mechanics and creatures, plus slightly different layout. When it comes to the modded regions in the Watcher, it is not as extremely different as say The Badlands or Aether Ridge, but it is still pretty different. Plus this mod will allow other Slugcats to access the region.

that's concerning... i dont know why the watcher version cant be in the other campaigns or expedition mode when the original mod already has a karma gate connection.. Downpour managed it why cant this dlc?

Well to explain why, it would require major spoilers on how it is implemented into The Watcher.

Doesn't mean I'm happy or think it's worth the money so I will grumble and cry on the forums as everyone else who wants change does seems to work

While the dlc definitely has a lot of flaws, I think most of the Watcher specific regions could not be made available to the rest of the slugcats without completely reworking how the dlc works.

Though it is important to note that the dlc is not finished yet. They released it prematurely and there is going to be a huge update later adding more content, collectibles, etc. Though honestly even in its unfinished state I would say it is more than worth $15 with how many creatures, regions, and songs it adds.

I think the Watcher version of this region is canonically NOT part of 5P's compound. I think those portals connect not just different points in time, but also different places across the world. The Watcher version could be 4,000 miles away from Shoreline. I assume that's why there are no gates connecting any of those regions to vanilla regions.

The Watcher versions of this region also have different internal acronyms (WSKA / WSKB / WSKC / WSKD, as opposed to this mod which is just SK), so you should be able to to have this mod and the Watcher DLC installed at the the same time.

So in general, this mod is for the Vanilla + Downpour slugcats (and probably all current modded slugcats), and The Watcher version is just intended for well, The Watcher.

Yeah; I think making mods for the watcher will focus more on utilizing the warp system and less on region gates that connect to the base game map. I probably won't make a custom version of the modded version of Stormy Coast for the watcher as it already exists in the official format. Once I have the free time, I may make tweaks to the mod version for the other slugcats if needed.

I'm not allowed to use the watcher assets or changes to Stormy Coast in the mod version; but nothing is stopping other modders from trying to wrangle those regions into something that non-watcher slugcats can play through. It will be funny to have two stormy coasts floating around tho.

I saw someone was working on a mod integrating the watcher regions into the main game map for the other slugcats, so that could be fun. I imagine the watcher takes place in a different "world state" from all the other slug cats though, maybe in the far future relative to them (except saint), tho it may be a more parallel dimension sort of thing, since that was implied in the watcher lore (the echo talking about how the watcher had died in other 'strands').

IMO the ideal situation would be if someone integrated the new watcher only locations into the base game + downpour, and then the new areas would be updated for the new game version and be integrated as well, so eventually we'd have one huge overworld for all of the slugcats. Except watcher who's stuck with the portals and the rot. Though who knows what changes the upcoming updates will bring! I'm excited, anyway.

Maybe the update will reintegrate lore pearls into the regions in the watcher that we can give to the Rot Prince (since he's basically made out of cancerous iterator cells that have reformed into a 'puppet' anyway). He's such a fun guy. Unlikely, since I think they're going for a more hands off approach to lore in this dlc, but it's a nice idea.
